Has anyone been to it. If so how is it like?

It’s big… it’s a library… you study there.

Uh… get there early during finals or you’ll never find an outlet for your laptop.

The library is huge, but nice. There seems to be plenty of space until, as Pred mentioned, at the end of the semester, when you will struggle to find a spot. There are six floors, with the second floor being where you come in. On that floor, there are a large number of computers available for students to use. Most of the time, the wait for them is minimal. The fifth floor is louder than the others since it allows talking for group studying. There are also lockers available for students to use, which is nice since you don’t have to carry books around all day. Instead, you can leave them at the library where you use them when studying. If you have specific questions, ask away. I’m at PCL every day and am happy to try and help.

There are six large floors, of which most are designated ‘quiet’ study areas. The 5th floor, and part of the 2nd floor can be considered as ‘collaborative’ study areas.

It’s difficult to find outlets (being built before they had to worry about these things) except for the UFCU commons area, where they input plug that sit in the middle of tables (4 plugs per hub thing)

Really though, I try to avoid the PCL as it is often the first place students think of to go study, and it makes me sleepy :P

Do keep in mind there are probably 10 other libraries you can get work done, if need be.

Btw are all UT students allowed access to all libraries.

AFAIK…though there are a lot of libraries that you would never need to visit unless you were in a specific major.

The only libraries I’ve used on campus are the A/V library at the FAC and the PCL.
I’ve studied at the Comm Library, but never used anything from the library itself.

If accepted I would go to PCL, AV one, the Benson(Latin American), Classical, Ransom

im in the PCL right now.

if you go at night, more than likely you won’t be able to find an empty table on the 5th floor.

bmsa91, just a couple of heads up:

The Benson is REALLY far away–on the other side of the football stadium, so unless you have to pick up specific books for a LAS class, it’s not a great place to study. And the HRC is not a great study library either, it’s more of a museum combined with a reading room for the rare books. I believe that you have to have a reason to get a book out at HRC, you can’t just get up and get a book.

theloneranger. Thanks for the information. Why I’m interested on the libraries I just wanted to some “exploring” of the libraries, If I there I do want to utilize the facilities that I’m paying for.

I remember feeling totally overwhelmed the first time I walked into PCL. It’s so huge!! I didn’t know where to start, lol.

That library has totally ruined all the college visits I’m making with my son. All the libraries look so dinky!
