Do many college girls wear these? We're trying to decide about a graduation gift.

pearl stud earrings are always very in and a classy gift. :)
be sure to get high quality ones though - silver or gold posts preferably with freshwater cultured pearls. the cheaper ones at stores like macys and such are horrible, but then again i have sensitive skin and i can't wear nickel or other common metals...

And diamonds are a girl's best friend.

WONDERFUL gift idea!

Nothing wrong with earrings.

I hate Jewerly. It's just a way to show off wealth and signify that you are have money if attacked in a 3rd world country.

charizard, i more than agree with u... wearing jewerly in a third world country is like branding ur forehead with "rob me please"...besides..jewelry is for old people man..

make sure they're conflict-free!

conflict diamonds are a very tiny proportion of diamonds sold

Diamonds are very common and not worth the price charged. Go for something truly rare like a ruby, emerald, or saphire. They are more likely to hold value.

I'd go with pearl. Diamonds are overrated (ever see the movie blood diamond?)

The average girl would be thrilled with either

I think either would make a lovely gift. Or maybe a combination of the two. If this is for high school graduation, I'd honestly be concerned about the recipient taking them off to college.

It's just a sad reality that valuables can and will be "borrowed" and not returned or just flat stolen.

Great college grad gift though.

laser, i know that but just pointing it out. i dont think its worth the chance.

when i was 16 my mom gave me sapphire stud earrings.
when i got my 2nd ear piercing she gave me diamond studs, which i've worn ever since.
if she only has one set of piercings, any size will do. (i'm not saying, you can go get her huge diamonds! i mean for any type of earring... even from claire's)
but if she's got a second ear piercing, or plans to in the near future, keep in mind that only small studs will be wearable.
i have quite a few (not valuable yet pretty) large studs i can't wear anymore xD

I agree. I had gotten a pair of earrings that had emeralds in them, so for high school graduation I got a necklace that had the same setting. I wear them both all the time. As for the safety of them, its not hard to keep them safe, as long as your daughter is responsible. But with some fine jewelry, she may never take them off, so little room for loss =P But I always love getting jewelry from my parents, not only because they're beautiful, but because it's a way for them to always be around. My mom gave me a necklace for christmas and I always wear it, or one of the others she's given me, and when ever I'm having a bad day, its comforting to know something from her in love is around my neck or in my ears.

Maybe look into a pearl set, necklace and earrings. My mom still has her pearls she got when she graduated from high school and college, and plans to pass them along to my sister and I at some point.

I see.......

Very interesting to see how there are sentimental feelings and devotions toward such trival ornaments...
