One of my friends, who is applying ED, has asked me to fill out the peer form, but I'm not sure what I should say. Is this just a teacher rec (my mom is a teacher, so i'm pretty clear on what's good for those) written by a fellow student? Basically good characteristics followed by anecdotes that demonstrate those traits? Dartmouth is his 1st choice school (since like...fifth grade lol), and I wouldn't want to hamper him in any way.

It’s a bit different from the teacher rec. Dartmouth uses the peer rec to get a sense of what the applicant is like outside the classroom. Definitely share any anecdotes about your friends strengths as a person, but defn. don’t put in any “One time he got so drunk…” stories.

On a related note, what exactly is the role of this peer rec in the admissions process. I notice how Dartmouth’s app is practically the Common App plus the peer rec. Does dartmouth place that much of a value on getting to know you as a person outside class?
