I recently submitted my application to Penn, but I forgot to add some additional information regarding a low Math 2 SAT subject test score. After submitting, there is a upload area where it says, “If you would like to update us with new information after your application has been submitted, you may do so here.” Do you think it would be appropriate for me to submit a word document here with the explanation of the low score. (I don’t know if it is important, but the reason I had a low score was because of a family tragedy and forgetting a calculator on the day of the test. I would word it more professionally, so that it doesn’t portray me in a negative light though.)
I do not think that it would help. If you think that you can improve the score, you may retake it, and send it to strengthen your application in case you were deferred.
It’s not worth sending an explanation. Your explanation could come across as an unnecessary sob story, which nobody wants. Even if they believe your story the way that I do, they can only sympathize with you while wondering why you didn’t retake it with a calculator considering the fact that math ii tests are offered on a monthly basis unlike some of the language tests that are offered only once a year. You also have to remember that many kids are not in their best shape when they take these tests. Sickness, sports, family emergency, tight schedule, far travel (a friend of mine travels 2+ hours to get to his testing center)…
