What do you guys think my chances are with these colleges? I had a discussion before with some of these colleges but I updated my stats and changed around the universities to match where I'm hoping to apply now (I'm still a little unsure about Yale, idk if I want to apply there). Please let me know what you think and what I can improve. Thank you!

P.S. Idk if this helps, but I am planning on possibly double majoring in Creative Writing and a more practical biological science. Know any other universities with good cw and science programs that I might have a shot at???

You have a good shot at CMU, NYU and maybe NW too. The others are reaches for everybody.

Penn: Lowish Reach
Brown: Low Reach
Yale: Reach
UChicago: Reach
Northwestern: Low Reach
NYU: Low Match
CMU: It really depends on the program but I would guess high match

I think that you have a really good shot at all of those schools but I can’t guarantee anything.

Also, if you want a good CW/hard science program, you should look into Johns Hopkins University. You probably already know that it has a very well-respected science curriculum, but it also has one of the best writing programs in the country (<a href=“Undergraduate | The Writing Seminars | Johns Hopkins University”>A Kiss in Space | The Writing Seminars | Johns Hopkins University).

Here’s a ranking of “10 Best Colleges for aspiring writers” (notice JHU):
http://college.usatoday.com/the-10-best-american-colleges-for-writers/</a></p>

Also, the Claremont colleges in SoCal (if you’re willing to go that far) have respectable science/creative writing programs.

I hope this helps! Don’t take my diagnosis too seriously, I’m just another person on this website after all.

*Note: I believe CMU requires subject tests for all applicants

@bradybest‌ @frostyy‌ thank you very much, your post were very helpful!! Frostyy, wow I hope your predictions are right lol, and I have heard about JHU’s creative writing program. It seems really amazing but I’m nervous about the city, a lot of people have told me it’s dangerous around campus. I’m going to check it out though, and I might visit later this summer! I’ll also consider the Claremont colleges! :D

Penn: Lowish Reach
Brown: Lowish Reach
Yale: Reach for everyone
UChicago: Low Reach
Northwestern: Low Reach - High Match
NYU: Low Match

Wow you’ve got really focussed ECs, definitely what colleges want to see! You probably will have an easy shot at NYU and maybe even Northwestern. The others are definitely harder, but you still have a higher than average chance (except for Yale, which is a crapshoot for everyone).
Of course, don’t mark my words, I’m not an expert after all.

btw, if you have time, can you please chance me?

Penn, Yale, and UChicago: reach
Brown, and Northwestern: low reach
NYU: match

Penn: reach
Yale: reach (for everyone)
UChicago: reach
Brown: reach
Northwestern: high match
NYU: match :)

Chance me back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1653288-chance-me-please.html#latest</a></p>

@Muzzyhoss‌ you’re application is really strong. Those schools are hard for everyone, but I think you’ll definitely get into one of them, if not a few. I do think you should apply to Yale; you don’t want to not do something and regret it!

@muzzyhoss I visited JHU earlier this year and I would definitely recommend visiting. The surrounding area isn’t dangerous enough that you feel uncomfortable during your tour and it’s always nice to get an impression of the school beforehand so you can form an opinion. If you’re in South Jersey, you can easily visit JHU in a day.

Good luck

@frostyy‌ okay that’s encouraging then! I do live in South Jersey so I’ll probably be able to get down there this summer!

@235423‌ you’re right, it’s better to apply and get rejected than to always be wondering! And thank you so much, I really hope you’re right about my application!
