for all of you who applied for transfer admission to UPenn, one of the people I asked to write me a recommendation (non-academic/professor, outside of school) told me today that they recieved a postcard thanking them for writing me a recommendation. I think that this is a bit odd, because I don't recall them having doing this for regular admission and it seems like extra work for the admissions office. Did anyone else hear that their recommendation writers received a thank you postcard? Just wondering and making myself believe that this is a good thing. But i'm sure its nothing special at all.

wow, that must be a good sign, was it a hand-written post-card?

It is even more odd b/c the whole pt to write a post-card is to entice u, not the person that recommended you to Penn.

i know its kinda weird. the post card was generic, but the recommender's name/address was handwritten and my name was also handwritten. i don't think im that super of a candidate anyway, so i should let it go...i'm going to try to see if my professor's received any kind of acknowledgement/thank you note from penn.

i also find it frustrating that there hasn't been any acknowledgement that they received my portion of the application. but i understand that its only been a week or so since the deadline and they have LOTS of mail. but i'm literally just 11 miles west of philly. cmon penn!

When I applied regular decision last year to a school, they sent my non-academic recommendation-writer a thank you letter. It wasn't Penn so I don't think it's too out of the ordinary.

I think it's because the recommender was a non-professor?

yeah, that makes sense. just wasn't expecting a school w/ such a big applicant pool to care about thanking the recommendation writers. after all, that is the applicant's job.

Hmm... I haven't talked to my professor since I handed him my forms in January... heh

haha, for the most part, the same. i had a couple more forms to turn in 'cause i'm applying to certain schools with a 4/1/05 deadline.

I really wish this thing about postcards is true for all recommendation providers. I got one rec from my old calc professor and i gave him the forms on the 13th and he turned it in on the 14th. :D
