Can some one help me with my decison? I want to know other peoples' opinions and any helpful info on this decision. How is the learning environment at Weslyan and the life?

Pomona! no doubt about that.

hey co2009,

i am in the same position as you! I have been accepted to both Penn and Wesleyan and I can't exactly decide...what do u want to major in? where did u apply in Penn?

im interested in international relations, english, and environmental studies but I got into Penn college

hey,

thats the same as me. I'm looking into political science at both Wesleyan and Penn...have u decided yet, cuz im not completely sure. i love both schools...Wes has the amazing diversity and liberal non-conformity, interesting people, and excellent academics...Penn has the liberal arts diversity, ivy league excellence, prestiege, amazing social life and excellent location

I'm a city boy, so im scared about the life in middletown, ct. That's why im trying to see both campuses, and meet the people there and talk to the professors

let me know how it goes anything you find out, i'd really appreciate it. I have really no preference in big city or small towns. Thanks man.

Co2009 - Thre's no question in my mind that Pomona and Wesleyan have the two most exciting learning environments of the three. Penn has some amazing programs and the campus has a nice monumentality to it (if you like that sort of thing) but, one never quite gets the feeling that the arts & science students are its focus. The med, law, and business schools all have magnificent physical presences and create a lot of buzz on and off campus. With the exception of the frats that line Locust Walk (many of whom are Wharton students), the rest of the arts and science kids are just sort of blah.

Claremont, California is a typically well manicured Cali suburb. But, I hear that the smog can get pretty bad. I also hear that to get anywhere that is at all interesting off-campus means spending a lot of time on the notoriously mind-numbing Los Angeles freeway system.

Middletown is a far funkier, former mill town: that security guard making the rounds on campus patrol, that cashier making change at the College Grill, more likely than not, both live within a few blocks of campus. Middletown's sturdy working class ambience is one of the more refreshing things about attending Wesleyan, IMHO.

also, if you're looking at majoring in english, wesleyan has an amazing english department with an amazingly broad array of course offerings. I would definitely say look at the course catalogues and the professors, because though I had initially looked at pomona, i'm interesteed in sociology, and ther soc department is FAR from impressive (I thought a department of 11 profs was small, but Pomona has 4, some of which it shares with the other colleges, and one who wrote the walking tour to LA, so that ruled out that decision).

from what I know from the program, we also have a great environmental studies program (one of my good friends is in the program, and in the past month, she's been to puerto rico and to a conference in colorado, and she's only a sophomore, so there are definitely some great opportunities available)

If you have any questions about wes, i'm available (i'm a soc-english major)

good luck!

haha i envy you!! (my girlfriend is going to wharton next year) and im probably going to go to wesleyan....i didnt get into swarthmore (conveniently close to philly) early either! we'll see what happens in a year or so!!!

Paragon, I thought you were waitlisted at Wesleyan - have you heard that you've been accepted? If so, congratulations!

how observant, lol.
i really meant that if wesleyan worked out, that would be the case.
but also, i've gotten a lot of support from the track coach at Wesleyan, Walter Curry, and tried to be fresh in their minds through other channels as well. i hadn't pushed track too hard and especially not for wesleyan prior to the letters arriving so after april 1st, the coach said he hoped i would run track there. so i have not officially heard, but im hoping/expecting to hear shortly. thanks, danielm. good luck to you if youre in the same boat!

Good luck to you Paragon, I hope it works out.

I'm actually the relative of a girl who was also waitlisted, and quite honestly I feel for you all. I hope you know you're all just part of a numbers game that is frustrating for you but, it seems, must be played by all the institutions these days. I bet they don't like it any more than you do.

Just remember that what matters isn't necessarily which path you take but what you make of it, so just keep a positive outlook whatever happens. Keep us posted on your status!

Thanks so much!
It really is a tough process. Whenever I talk to juniors, whose minds are fresh from the college tours and info sessions, all I can think is...you have no idea what you're in for. The process goes on all year long. It's tough but I feel that in the end it'll be fine, and I'll find a good place for myself. Thanks again! Will do.

That's so true. People used to say junior year was tough, but I'm seeing senior year being much harder on you kids. But you sound very grounded, and I'm sure you'll do fine. I'll be watching to see where you wind up!

Hey danielm,

I got a phone call from admissions this morning and was told that I've been accepted! I'm fortunate to have found out so early and I am definitely going to accept. Good luck to you and your relative!!

Paragon, that's wonderful news - I'm very, very happy for you. I saw on the Waitlisted thread that some others have been called too, and you have to assume that for everyone posting on CC there's a bunch that don't go on this site, so it seems like they've made a plenty of offers this weekend. We haven't heard from them yet - I would guess that if we don't hear within a day or two it'll be a long shot at best, which would be enormously disappointing as we've all realized over the last few months what a super fit Wesleyan would be for her, and vice versa.

At any rate, best of luck to you, and I'll keep you posted one way or the other.

i would recommend pomona as a member of the class of 2009, but i guess its a little late. i also got into wesleyan, but pomona was always #1 on my list so it really didnt matter. wesleyan is an awesome school too. i personally dont like penn, though... too elitest.
so where did you end up deciding?

You never know, this is just the very beginning of waiting list activity! Spots should be opening up for days, weeks, and possibly months now! Good luck again! And thank you so much for your support.
