I'm wondering if this only happens in my residence hall (unlikely) or if I'm just making too big of a deal over such a petty issue (more likely).

Anyways, people in my dorm tend to just sit on the floor in the middle of the hallways and do homework, talk, surf the web etc. These said students REFUSE to ever move their legs, feet or empty pizza boxes out of the way when anyone walks by. It barely bothered me until today when I had to haul up the throwback 1940's vacuum that my dorm has in the main office. I was pushing it down the hall, and guess what?! They just stared at me. This time there was about five of them, all sprawled out and lifeless, doing nothing of importance. Yet, they don't even have the decency to move out of the way.

So I was forced to pick this damn forty pound vacuum up and carry it about ten feet, meanwhile making sure not to step on the hands, legs, and various body parts covering the already gross floor.

Do people in your dorms do this? Better yet, do you?

For those who are subjected to this, does it kind of bother you?

This happens in my dorm a ton, but people always move if they're blocking the entire hall, move or quiet down if you go out and tell them to be quiet, etc.

The next time something like this happens, stare at them like they're idiots and say 'excuse me' really slowly and loudly. And if they still don't move, say it again. And if they still don't move, march towards them dragging the vacuum and tell them how heavy it is :P

I've only seen people doing this once, and I was too confused to get annoyed. My college's dorm halls are pretty disgusting, and I for one would never want to sit on the floor of one. Maybe you should say something to your RA? I can see where it would be annoying if it happened on a repeated basis.

Did you ask them if they could move? I find it hard to believe that they won't move if asked politely.
The passive aggressive way would be to just charge forward like nothing's the matter. Lift the vacuum, but accidentally drop it a times. Maybe step on a few hands and feet. While doing this, keep apologizing profusely. Say that it's completely your fault and that you'll try not to do that again. If they see you a next time, they should be rather quick to get out of your way.

Be a man and tell them to move; politely first, but if they don't listen, feel free to use whatever profanities and/or insults you feel necessary.
