People still waiting for decisions

hey guys, I have a question. So, I submitted my app before the priority deadline and my transcripts way before that as well. But the tracker says that my transcripts are still not received even now. The admissions officer is still sorting out the issue cause I did submit everything on time. I don’t want to not get in University of Minnesota cause it’s my dream university and I see so many people being admitted into the college that it’s scaring me now. Will this issue reduce my chances? I hope it doesn’t cause I REALLY want to get in. Is there anyone else still waiting for their decisions?

Saw this post and did not want you to feel alone! I am in the same boat. I talked with some people on reddit, I emailed a college admissions counselor, and scrolled wayy wayy back in this college confidential forum. here is what i can tell you.
Likely, people like us haven’t been accepted yet because we don’t have absolutely stellar scores (think 3.7 unweighted, ACT 30) And/Or we applied closer to December.
That doesn’t mean we don’t have a chance; we just have a lower chance. So your chances are reduced; but you’re still competitive.
My school hasn’t had finals yet, I don’t know about yours, but they evaluate any transcript they receive and factor it into the decision. Also what I learned; they evaluate your application multiple times before ultimately making a decision.
If you haven’t heard back two weeks into February, call in and ask about what’s going on. People who heard back after February 17th (this date was arbitrary, I just noticed this pattern in the forum) were usually waitlisted or rejected.
I would talk to an admissions counselor, your school counselor, and if available your transcript office to see what’s taking them so long or if it’s a clerical error.

There were people being accepted well into January last year. Have hope! @HoneyBee30, the sooner your admissions counselor gets that timing issue about the transcripts sorted out the better. What documented evidence do you have that you submitted before the deadline (a Parchment print-out or e-mail from your counselor attesting as to when the transcripts were sent, for instance). You might want to have access to something like that in the event that UMN can’t sort out your case. As long as they and you are in agreement as to the timing of your transcript, you can offer to re-send!

@whasianpoet I don’t thnk it’s about the scores. I am international student from Mumbai, India and my scores are much higher than the scores you mentioned but I still haven’t received a decision. I know a few people whose scores are lower than mine have already received their decisions and that makes me very nervous. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about it.

My S applied in late August and hasn’t received a decision, with good scores but lower GPA/rank. His first semester report card was just finalized and since his wGPA rose by .11 we’re hoping that will prompt a favorable decision. Once we realized he was getting straight As again, I actually hoped they’d hold off deciding until we could submit the semester grades.

@whasianpoet I’m sorry but 3.7 UW GPA and 30 act IS INDEED stellar. You WILL 100% get in UMN if you applied before Dec 15th.

Hey everyone! There’s a bit of confusion about what I said. @freakofnature22, of course one would. I personally have a 3.2 uw and a 29 on the ACT though. I’m just stating the average statistics of those I’ve seen accepted. @ShridharSukhani I’m sorry to hear that, and I’m sorry my predictions may be wrong. I’m only going off of what information I could find for US students.

S has a 35C and 3.62U (now a bit higher), 4.02W (ditto), good computer science ECs, and here we are nearly 5 months later…<>

Is anybody else seeing this today - When he logs in to MyU, he gets a “999 undefined error”
Does that mean that the decision will be posted soon or just a glitch in the system?

@DSNJ2016 mine says the same thing, not sure what it means but I bet the system just won’t be working for a few hours and it’s a glitch

U of MN system is usually undergoing routine maintenance on Sundays.

@whasianpoet , my son has similar stats. He applied on August 18th and is still waiting a decision. So, yeah, I agree with you. Based on posting I have seen from last year, those with a bit less than stellar stats will probably have to wait until closer to the deadline (Feb 28th) to get a decision.

@whasianpoet @BrewCrew82 you guys should send a letter of interest, letter of extenuating circumstances for low grades, and recommendation letters from teachers. email daniel garrison (http://admissions.tc.umn.edu/counselors/BioDanielG.html).

@freakofnature22 Did you send it just to him or anyone else?

@vvfor3 I just sent it to him and he put it in my file.

Hey everyone, saw these posts and don’t want you to get discouraged. UW-Madison had same rolling admission- just look at the CC stream. Their date was the end of January - everyone who applied by their deadline was notified around 6pm electronically on the 31st of January. Twitter kept us in the loop, it was nerve-racking, exciting and overwhelming. Don’t read into not hearing. I don’t work for UM or UW, just an excited parent working through this process. I have seen many kids get discouraged but don’t! You worked hard in high school and you will get into a college…the right college for you. Best of luck everyone!

This is kind of a repeated conversation from the “Admitted Students 2020” thread, but my son also has applied at Minnesota and Wisconsin and I don’t feel the two are similar in the way that they release decisions. They may both be “rolling” (Wisconsin never really states anywhere that they release decisions on a rolling basis), but the definition of “rolling” can differ. Wisconsin generally releases their decisions in waves or batches on a few unpublished select dates and it also tends to separate these “waves” by in state and OOS. Minnesota appears to trickle out decisions on an almost weekly basis from October through the end of February and no real clear cut pattern based on in-state, OOS, school of education, etc. Based on what I saw in threads from last year, I still believe most people that are still waiting will get a decision on either Feb 21st or Feb 28th…but again, that’s just a guess.
