I'm startin the Pepperdine board!
So who all is applying to Pepp this year?
It's one of my top choices, along with Stanford, Wheaton, Northwestern, and Columbia. Where else is everyone applying?

anyone else out there applying to Pepperdine??

Hello Torchi!
I'm glad to see someone else on this site who is applying to Pepperdine. Are you applying early or later? I am going to apply later. Have you begun your essays yet? Where are you from? I am from Dallas. Hope to hear from you.

I'm applying later too, cause I applied to Stanford single-choice EA. I just hafta revise my personal statement and shorten it up, and then do a few of the short answers. I'm from Sequim, WA (northwest of Seattle). So where else are you applying?

I am also applying to UCLA, Stanford, Brown, U of Texas and Northwestern. What are you going to study? I am planning on studying science or French literature (a weird combination, I know).

I'm planning to study science and music (that's a wierd combo too), and probably some foreign language cause I'm planning to study abroad. Have you visited the campus before? I did last spring and really liked it, and not just for the location. I think it's wierd that no one on this site seems to like Pepperdine very much. I'm not sure really what my chances are. I thought it was almost a safety, since its average SAT is 1250 or something, but I've heard it has really unpredictable admissions, and 2 or 3 other kids from my class of only 220 are applying...

I agree- no one on this website is into Pepperdine. Maybe because they are all East Coasters. Sequim, huh? I think I knew a girl from Sequim, she went to my camp in Missouri. I could be totally wrong though. So what are your stats? Sorry if you think that's rude. Mine are:
SAT: Verbal, 750
Math, 770
ACT:32
GPA: 4.84 weighted
I'm involved in numerous activities, i.e. founder of French Club, National Honors Society council, student body prez. I'm also extremely involved in my church, which should be good for Pepp. What do you think?

whoa! is her name Britney? She goes to Kanakuk in MO and is one of my really good friends. She's applying to Pepperdine too and it's one of her top choices right now.

I was gonna ask about stats anyways :) yours look great, definitely competitive at Pepp
here are mine: SAT 720m, 690v 800 writing, 790 math 2c, 680 us history
GPA 4.0 uw (school doesn't weigh) rank 1/220
lots of band stuff (all-state trumpet), leadership in several clubs, sending in piano recording, lots of church involvement/missions

Yeah, her name was Britney! She was in my cabin at K2 two years ago. That is so weird! Will you tell her hi?

I just told her, and she was really excited. She says hey and told me you're really cool. that's so crazy! She just applied to Pepp early, so I hope we all get in! I've heard that they're really trying to emphasize church involvement in their applicants, so I think that that will help all of us. I think you have a great chance everywhere you're applying.

Yeah, I guess a lot of the people here must be East Coasters, cause everyone seems to really like Pepperdine where I'm from. Do you know if the number of kids applying from one school affects your chance of admission? Cause there are 2 guys (including myself) and Britney applying for sure from my school...and maybe a few more. I think we're all qualified, but they might so many of us in.

Well keep me updated on your apps, and good luck! Oh and did you apply anywhere early? I did to Stanford.

That is so cool! What a weird coincidence. I am totally going to have to talk to Britney.
I applied to Stanford early as well! I visited there and fell in love with it. They mailed me a letter and said I will find out my answer next week. Isn't that amazing? I didn't expect such an early reply. Will you find out that early? Good luck

OK, I'll tell her you wanna talk to her. Wow, you're gonna find out next week? Were you recruited or something? I just got one of the little cards last week that says all the necessary materials were received and I will hear back in mid-December. That's awesome though - hope you get in!

They sent me a message saying that their first pick round of students will know next week (doesn't it sounds like the NBA draft?). I guess that must be a good sign for me then. Tell Britney to give me a call. She should have my number from Kanakuk handouts.

Sounds like a really good sign! be sure to tell me if you get in! and I'll tell Brit to give you a call. good luck

Hello Torchi!

Have you received your letter yet? I received mine on Friday. I was accepted to Stanford!!! I am very excited, as are my family and friends. I am still uncertain of where I will apply, but Stanford is looking more likely.

***SORRY! "I am uncertain of where I will ATTEND!" Wow, what an idiot.

Congratulations on getting into Stanford! That's really exciting! I'm supposed to find out by next Wednesday, but I've heard that I might hear as early as Friday. I'm not expecting to get in, so I'm trying to think more about Pepperdine and Wheaton, but if I do get in, I'll be really excited, and probably go there. so are you still planning on applying to Pepp? I'm not positive if I will if I get into Stanford.

My son got the big NO from early decision at Claremont McKenna College and is now searching around for other CA schools to look at. We saw on a California College website that Pepperdine has something like 60% of its graduating class going on to graduate schools; what is that all about? Since so many people were business/comm majors, I was assuming chasing MBAs? Son wants to be a lawyer and is looking for schools with good reputations & a good number of graduates going on to law school...but he doesn't have the stellar stats for the top schools. Tell us about Pepperdine and why over 6000 people apply and only 26% or so get in. Thanks!

Pepperdine seems to not consider stats as much as church involvement and character. They turn away 1500 SAT ers from involved students with lower stats. Occidental is another good Ca school to check out.

Should have proofread it, should say turn away 1500's FOR involved students
