Pepperdine '09!

I think that much of what you have heard has been exaggerated. I've heard the same stuff. I had a theater audition out there a few weeks ago and I got to see the school and the students on a school day so I think I can somewhat relieve some of your concern knowledgebly. The students were really friendly and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves whether they be hanging out in the cafeteria or meandering around the campus. The girls were definitely not all wearing high heels and full fledged makeup though. Perhaps the steretype comes from Northern girls who don't take care of themselves. Anyhow there were plenty of sweatpant wearing, tennis shoe sporting girls and many more in other athletic attire. I'm sure the overdone girls exist, I saw a few, and I know there is a strong Christian emphasis (it is a Christian school) but I don't think that you should have a problem or that anything exists that should dissuade you from going there.

it has a pretty high minority percentage. However being Christian and good looking definitely works in your favor at Pepperdine especially since its in a place like malibu. I have visited a couple of times because its my first choice school and i feel very comfortable there...as far as the friendliness goes, i thought it was pretty friendly, then again im Christian and very Californian. I have heard mixed reviews from other people who say its like high school all over again. lol i have no clue if its true, i think it just depends on who you associate yourself with, as is wherever school you choose to go to. The one thing that I am 100% sure on is that it is indeed super conservative, lol i dont think i met any liberals or even moderates which is quite funny. I think you should really visit and spend a day there with some of the students to really experience the life there for yourself. good luck!

Thanks for the replies! I have another question. I've also heard that there is absolutely no night-life within the school. As in, no parties and get-togethers unless it's a formal Christian dance. Is this true? It's not that important to me that alcohol is huge there, in fact it's not really important at all, but I would like something secular to do on a thursday, friday, and saturday night. Let me know, thanks guys!

dude youre in malibu! theres the beach! and youre also like 5 min from santa monica where there are clubs/bars you can go to.

I'm applying to Pepperdine along with USC, Northwestern, American, Syracuse, Boston U, Ithaca (already accepted there...with scholarship), Loyola Chicago, and UNL (blah...accepted w/regents scholarship...forced to because of my location). Good luck everyone with admissions...I am so anxious to find out about schools now that all the application filing is OVER! AH!
