anyone else?

I just opened mine.

Got mine today. Lot of paperwork.

Delivered here too! Sort of surprised, seemed like just the east coasters were getting them. P2B will have to wait until Sun. to open it...............he's at CVW right now.

It does look like the East Coasters are getting them. I assume this is because you are in closer proximity to Annapolis than us out here on the West Coast. I have been looking in the mail everyday hoping to get it!

got mine today, Michigan.

A **** TON of paperwork!

i take it then most of us east coasters have the early reporting time slots? yes? mine's at 6:30..or should i be sayin 0630 now? haha just kidding.

There is not rhyme or reason to report times!

Lola recieved hers today! She also recieved an invitation to be on women's crew team and said that they had recieved info from Counselor Guidance office that they had given them her name??? Any one have any info on the women's crew team? They sent us a packet of info but was just curious if anyone on here is on crew. Lola is so excited! (I am too).

Also, does any one know FOR SURE .. can the $6000 ACE Loan pay the $2500 fees? I am a bit confused and the way I read the info it will not pay the $2500. Does anyone know for sure? THANKS!

No the $2500 is separate from the loan. It can be payed with plastic, check or scholarships. It is also non refundable

then what is the $6,000 loan for??

Advancement for Clothing and Equipment. "ACE"

All those uniforms! She will quickly learn how to just sign on the line.

I asked "Hey Bud how much did that one cost?" "Beats Me, I just sign on the line."

Just like trying to figure out how much he is getting paid. After a while you just give up.
The 2,500 payment, mor eor less, is for computer.
The 6,000, more or less, is for uniforms. Paid back by deduction from regular paycheck.

Net result: $100 a month to plebes.

So the $2500 is an out of pocket cost that we pay and are not reimbursed for, unless your son/daughter gets a local scholarship that pays for it? Or is it like a down payment to any other university that is not refundable if you decide to not attend?

Dash, will your/our MEAP $ help us on this?

Michdad

do we just pay 2500, or 2500 with the 6000.
I don't get what the loan is for?
Do u pay it or u borrow it?

i'm under the impression they are 2 seperate things.
in reference to the permit to report package (you'll see once you get it, if you haven't already) there's a bright yellow sheet that covers this info titled Entrance Fee/Ace Loan Information.

nutshell version::
1.Entrance Fee- every midshipman is required to pay a $2500 entrance fee, not refundable after the Oath of Office has been taken. This fee is used to defray initial cost of uniforms, computers, and supplies. it's mandatory.

Advance for Clothing and Equipment (ACE) Loan: Each midshipman will receive an interest free Govt Loan. It'll be payed back to Govt through monthly pay deductions from the Midshipmen pay. Amount of loan is authorized up to $6000 (it says $6500 in the Important Information for the Class of 2011 though...typo?). All midshipman recieve this loan after taking the Oath. THIS IS INDEPENDENT FROM THE ENTRANCE FEE DESCRIBED IN PARAGRAPH 1 ABOVE

Use of Scholarships
Scholarships may be used to pay all or part of entrance fee, and/or offset part of the ACE Loan. Scholarship funds in excess of $2500 will be applied to your ACE loan balance. A letter from the awarding organization outlining the authorized use of scholarship should accompany the shcolarship check. Any limitations on the use of scholarship monies should be verified with the awarding organization.

hope that helps

Is it 2,500 now? I think it was 2,200 two years ago.
In any event, that is the price of admission; like a movie ticket. No tickee, no takee. This gets you in the door and is used for, primarily, to pay for the computer and, maybe, initial books.

The 6,000 is a loan that the Academy advances each mid. This is used to pay for your uniforms, accessories, etc. This is repaid, over four years, out of your monthly earnings.

There are other deductions, etc. but discussion of that will come after you digest this information.

This year first semester was in the $50.00 per month range. Second semester has been $75.00 to 100.00 per month.

The bad news? Not going far on that.

The good news? Not going far on that, together.

"We're off to see the wizard. Just follow the yellow brick road."

"Oh, shut up, Toto!"

"Aye aye, maam!" :p

Profmom: Only the first paycheck, ie the plebe summer period, was $50. Once the AC year started, it's been $100 on the first of every month, starting with September.
