What are examples of good candidates for a personal recommendation letter, if the writer cannot be an instructor/professor/school official or employer? I realize it must be someone who knows me well and can write well, but I’m looking for ideas on what relationships are appropriate here. My first choice it seems is disqualified because I met them through family members (used to be in a relationship with a parent’s cousin, prominent community member, has known me well for many years). Otherwise, all my recent ECs are connected with my college. The last time I volunteered with a group was when I was 14/15, so not a recent character reference. Also no recent coworkers except fellow students within a campus job.
Any suggestions?
