im an econ major and I am just wondering whether any of you here has ever petitioned to stay for another semester (or at least for summer). How does it work and how hard is it to actually get approved to stay for another semester?

I am also wondering this. If I have less than 120 units (not counting AP) at the end of my eighth semester, can I stay for the summer or more semesters if I want to?

Since approximately 39% of undergraduates at Cal cannot finish in four years, I am sure there are ways to get another semester. Ask the Dean.

Yes. You have the choice of including or not including AP units under your 120 if you want to graduate on time or stay longer at Cal.

Well, I’m about to go through this, so I’ll let you know how it goes. :9

(Lovely that they wait until after the drop deadline to tell you, hey, you’re not supposed to be here! 5 weeks, Cal? REALLY?)

kchen, you are incorrect to a level,

Examples:
-you could be an 8th semester single major senior with 129.5 fall/spring units and tons of summer/CC units (or none at all) and you will still be allowed to take a 9th semester
-you could be an 9th semester double major senior with 135.5 fall/spring units and tons of summer/CC units (or none at all) and you will still be allowed to take a 10th semester
-you could be an 8th semester single/double major senior with 130/+ fall/spring units and tons of summer/CC units (or none at all) and you will still be allowed to take summer session after your 8th semester

Summer sessions (and CC units for freshman admits) are freebies, they only affect your GPA and boost your TeleBEARS, but they never hurt you.

NOTE: For spring admits, if you did FPF that counts as your first semester, even though you were technically off-campus
