Petitioning to Exceed 216 Units

Hey guys, I have a few questions about the unit ceiling: How difficult is it to get approval to exceed 216 units? On what grounds are petitions usually approved? Do you think it's possible to go up to, say, 240 units? When do people usually submit a petition (what year/quarter)?

Maximum Units

When I talked to a counselor, they seemed to imply that if you graduate in 4 years it’s not a problem.

Yes what the poster above me said is right–if you graduate in 4 years, no one cares.

I’m provisionally approved to go up to 256 units - just as long as I graduate by Summer of my 4th year (i.e. summer after commencement). Staying fall quarter will be harder to justify, though. So agree with the other two above.

^ Thats exactly what I was told as well - you have until the summer after your 4th year, and essentially no unit cap until that point.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you know if anyone has ever been approved for staying a 5th year?

yah my counselor saidt he same thing. If you want to go over your unit cap, you need to be able to finish everything by the end of summer of your fourth year. You can take as many units as you want as long as you graduate on time. I was wonder if anyone has petitioned to go voer unit limit and also stay an extra year?

^ I was wondering the same.

Do we need approval to stay another year if we DON’T go over 216 units by the end of our fourth year?

Petitioning to ban OP

^ What’s a UC Merced student doing here?

haha I am wondering the same thing… I feel like there isn’t enough time to double major/ double minor take prereqs… 2 years is not long enough!
