Has anyone petitioned to go over unit max and was successful?
I heard that you can stay for as long as you want as UCLA as long as you stay under the unit max but what about going over it AND staying extra??
Advice pleaseeee! I'm really stressed out about this because I might not be able to apply to pharmacy school if they don't grant it! :(

You’re not aloud to stay at UCLA for as long as you want. If anything you could successfully go over the unit max provided you graduate on time, and don’t stay longer than your expected graduation quarter(or I think the quarter after your expected graduation quarter).
To petition for more units, you have to have at least a 3.0 and either go the first day of school, or get it approved by an academic counselor(before school starts).

^Extremely pertinent reply…

I’ve read the same thing stargalaxy, that as long as you don’t go over the unit cap you can stay longer than after your fourth year at UCLA. This is something I’ve read mostly on CC and other places on the web though, not on UCLA’s website… in fact, their website is pretty bare-bones as far as this subject goes.

That leads me to believe that the restriction on units and time is for students who are pulling a “Van Wilder,” not particularly for those who are excelling in their classes and actually accomplishing something.

I’m interested in doing the same thing, so I spent a while searching through the last few years of threads to see if anybody had been allowed to or denied from taking on extra units, and I didn’t see any cases of either. My recommendation is to show that you’re a serious student, you just need a little extra time. Then talk to your counselor and see what they recommend. This is a case-by-case thing, so he/she is the only person who can give you solid advice.

Good Luck!
