I need advice with petitioning to exceed the 216 unit cap. If you've done it before, I'd like some help with my approach

“I will still graduate within 4 years”

when i went to orientation, they said that the school is extremely strict about the 216 unit cap. my counselor said that it is not possible unless some of the courses making up the 216 units are research courses (courses 99, 198, 199). otherwise, not possible. there’s probably a way around it if you have an extremely good reason, but it would probably be taken to the dean and unlikely approved.

Here’s a loophole (This only applies if you have 105 units or more.): If you still haven’t completed your foreign language and GEs, you could take them in the summer at a community college and transfer them to UCLA. Therefore, you’ll get the credit without accumulating units.

You will be approved if you show you will graduate within 4 years. That’s how I got up to 318 units (272 was my max w/APs)

So its out of the question if its after four years? What if you are a junior looking at change to being pre-med, but can’t finish the required units within four years?

You can take 4 years plus the summer after your 4th year. If you stay within that time limit, you can take as many credits as you want. After that… good luck.
