At my school the top 5% students have gotten their acceptances for UCI across all majors from science to music to engineering. But the others have not received their notifications. Does UCI accept their top candidates first?

I'm worried because if UCI is hesitant or not clear cut about me then what is UCLA or UCB going to decide?

I am a senior at UCI with an majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences. UCI will begin sending out acceptance letters in the beginning of March (around this time). Most people that receive their acceptance letters earlier are invited to join the Campuswide Honors Program(CHP). Like most universities, top candidates are typically accepted first. However, I have heard of UCI rejecting applicants that are accepted into UCSD, UCLA, etc. You have to understand that the point of the application is for the university to see if you are a good fit for this school, and having good stats is typically how it is decided. In addition, as most students here attend UCI, I do not have a clue when UCB/UCLA will send out their applications. I will however say that being rejected to UCI does not mean you will be rejected to UCLA or UCB.

I would like to also add that if you are coming in as a Pharmaceutical Science major you most likely want to be a pharmacist or something related to pharmaceuticals. If you do get accepted to all three schools, keep in mind that UCI is not worse than UCLA/UCB. In fact, UCI has the only undergraduate Pharmaceutical Science major in CA. I am also going to add that when applying for graduate schools (which I am speculating is your end goal) they will not care if you went to UCLA, UCB, UCI, or UCR. Pick the school that you know you can excel the most in.

Yeah most of them have been awarded the CHP, which is why I was worried whether my application is competitive enough.

I hope I did not offend you (or anyone) when I unintentionally made it seem like I put UCLA and UCB at a higher level. I made my thoughts (and this post) based on the correlation purely between GPA/Test scores and acceptance rates.

Thank you for your reply and I understand what you’re trying to get through. Unfortunately, GPA/test scores do matter a whole lot, therefore I’m still not at ease about not getting CHP from UCI. Which gives me a thought in the back of my mind that I have no chance for my reach/dream schools.

Don’t worry you did not offend me. However, I was once in your shoes a couple years ago and I know exactly what you’re thinking. Going to a reputable undergraduate school does not necessarily mean you will be set into getting a good graduate school or having a good job after you graduate. Acceptance letters will be extended until the end of March, most people accepted prior to that were invited into the CHP program like I said. If you are shooting for UCLA/UCB your stats are probably high enough to get in this school, but you should wait until the end of the month before being antsy.

ok im feeling better about UCI i guess… Uc Davis came out today; I was rejected it was the pharm chem major though. Ahhh when do you think we will find out?

I got a letter on March 1 saying that I got into Pharmaceutical Sciences. Good luck! Acceptances are still coming out until the end of the month.
