Pharmacy Program Questions

I was kind of hoping that someone on here could answer a question I had. Out of these schools that I got accepted to which has the best program?
-NEU
-UB
-Duquesne
-URI
-Massachusetts College of Pharmacy
-Albany College of Pharmacy

I know in the Pharmacy world the latter two are seen as jokes : P. But leaving cost, and the 2+4, 0-6 program aside which is the best?
Also is Northeasterns Co-op program something that is a real deal breaker?
Thanks! Any replies would be much appreciated.

hahaha MCP is a joke school? I wouldn’t know either way, but I have a few friends who go there and I just thought it was funny to see your comment.

Haha yeah, i have friends who go there and albany who say to steer clear because of limited funding and they have had trouble finding jobs once out of college. I dont know though?

Albany has the highest NAPLEX pass rate in the Northeast - odds are in your favor ;)

One of my sisters goes to ACP, the other northeastern. I want to go to a pharmacy program as well so I’ve looked into this a lot. The reason why I am like my sisters is because I think having a pharm.d provides a lot of opportunities- you can apply to medical school, join the military as an officer, people will know your smart for whatever job you might apply too, and then you always have a great fall back job as a pharmacist.

As far as ACP, my sister (4th yr) absolutely hates it. She says the teachers don’t teach you there (its all powerpoint, etc.) and the class sizes are huge, the weed out is ridiculous (my AP biology teacher taught there before and confirmed this, she said there was little student-teacher interaction and she quit because of having to weed out so many kids), and since it’s not a university as well there’s nothing to do on campus (and it’s really small). There’s no non-pharm/pharm health/whatever students, hardly any clubs,no sports, etc. and with that any school pride. I also go to school/live near Albany. There’s not much to do in the city and it’s pretty gloomy. They say the city brings “gloom and doom.” What is good is the adirondack mountains aren’t that far away for hiking and Jiminy Peak is only an hour or so for skiing/snowboarding. ACP does have that highest NAPLEX rating though, but that’s only attributed to kicking out everybody but the best it think.

My other sister, at northeastern, is a freshman. She loves the atmosphere of the school and city and says it’s really great. Northeastern also has coop going for it, which will help a lot to spice up your resume and for when your applying to a job you’ll already have so much experience (all pharm schools have internships in the curriculum but northeastern just has a lot more). The coop also gets you money though which is nice. Since the school is not a pharmacy specific school, there’s a lot more people/diversity. There’s clubs, there’s sports, etc. - ie everything a normal college will have.

I applied and got into Northeastern, this is where i want to go. My second choice is URI. I hear it’s really nice and “quaint.” It’s also cheaper - im definitely going to visit. I was told Rutgers is not any good. For your undergrad years, it’s not bad because your located on the main campus. However, once you go into the Earnet Mario school then it sucks because it’s location/building aren’t nice. That’s what I was told.

Hope this helped.

Yeah thanks davematthewsxvii, that helped out alot!
If I went to ACPHS then I’d be living at home and quarantined with a bunch of pharmacy kids at school…not the kind of experience that I want from college haha.
I have yet to visit Northeastern, I’ll have to go this february, but I did visit URI and liked it alot.
I guess I should just visit them all, get back all my decisions, then make a decision from there.

You must live near me then ( I live in loudonville about a mile down from Siena). Just make sure, whereever you go, don’t get too distracted / go overboard on the fun if you’re at a regular university. you’re going to be on a medical professional, career-oriented path and i bet it’s really easy to forget that.

IMO, being completely around other kids like you isn’t that great of a thing. You want to be around a diverse bunch of people. I would live at home if i went there too.

and yup, that’s how im going to decide - visit em all and see which sell me the best
