Hi, is anyone familiar with good pharmacy schools around the mid-atlantic region, preferably ones that will have a merit-based scholarship. My daughter a senior, is ready to do her applications and we are looking for a range of colleges. I did get a couple of tips from this board about the University of Rhode Island and University of Pittsburg having decent programs. Just want a few more choices, we live in Northern Virginia so something which is not too far would be desirable. Thanks.

University of Cincinnati ( if that isn't too far) is reputed to have a terrific pharmacy program.

Rutgers University offers a 6 year PharmD program staight out of high school. It is also located in central Jersey, which is where most pharmaceutical companies are headquartered.

st.john's university in queens has a good pharmacy program.

I know University of Sciences in Philadelphia has a good, (and fairly well-renowned) one. I mean, it was founded as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.

Both midAtlantic.....one private, one public. Indianapolis, West Lafayette. One small school one large school.

http://www.pharmacy.purdue.edu/

Ohio Northern has a well known program if Ohio isn't too far away (and they give away A LOT of money) (6 yr. program)

USPharmD.com is a website. I think it is the one I liked. I can't remember. It does list the schools by state. From there you can explore the merit aid. Try to find the state board pass rate by school to evaluate the education. You need to pass the board to practice.

Schools, at least in CA, like to see how the student showed interest in pharmacy. Has your daughter asked pharmacists she knows for school advice? Maybe if you call a local hospital or pharmacy you might get lucky and reach a friendly pharmacist who is willing to talk.

University of Rhode Island...not exactly mid atlantic, but good pharmacy program.
