So my D received an invitation to join this national honor society and the membership fee is $70. Is it worth joining or does a student's GPA speak for itself? Are there membership benefits worth the fee or is it simply another credential to put on one's file?

My daughter joined one her first or second year, but I do not think that she renewed it. The one she joined did have some campus activities that focused on community service. If she had it to do over, she would probably pass.

It says the $70 is a lifetime membership fee. I guess there are activities related to service that might not be open to others. D is already involved in some other service-related things so perhaps it’s not so useful. Anyone else want to weigh in?
