Hey, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how good the econ and philosophy departments are at Brown. I know they must be pretty good - Brown is an excellent school, but I just wanted to hear complaints or compliments you have about those two departments. Also, how many people double major at Brown? Is it encouraged? Thanks.

double concentrating is particularly common at brown because of the famed open curriculum--there is a lot of lattitude and flexibility in designing this course of study

brown's philosophy is a powerhouse--small and intimate, yet it is the home of two major philosophy journals (PPR and Nour), and is ranked among the best in the country. each faculty member is a rock star and the new recruits are equally impressive (richard heck quit his tenured full professorship at harvard to join the brown faculty this year)

the econ department is also very strong and has a great website--worth exploring thoroughly
