I've recently been phone called by UCLA. They called and told me " __________ we've seen your scores and record and think you'd be an excellent fit at UCLA and encourage you to apply." I didn't know what to think of it. Is it a big deal that they took the time to call me, or do they do these kinds of things with everyone? Btw I am an African American male in CA, with a 3.9W and ~2000 SAT. But seeing as how UC's don't factor race, that may not even be relevant. Thanks in advance.

My daughter in Texas received a call last night also. She has gotten phone calls from a couple other schools. Its too bad UCLA waited so long to start contacting prospective students. Most top students already have their list of colleges ready to go.

Encouraging you to apply doesn’t mean they’ll admit you. But you probably have a fairly decent shot if you’re “holistic” enough.

I agree that it is a bit late in the admissions process. But the UC app is due on November 30th, and it isn’t very difficult to fill out. That should be more than enough time for anyone who’s genuinely interested in applying to fill it out.
