phone calls home???

^^^

You use this as your first post, backing up a known fraud who only posts to slam other board members.

It would seem the Running of the Trolls has commenced after a short (but still blessedly welcomed) hiatus...

I'm sure it is a day by day thing.
It is, and sometimes hour by hour or even minute by minute.

Don't sweat it too badly. It's natural, and they learn to deal with it or else they quit. Also, the old saying stands, "No news is good news"; if you have not been informed your son has been seriously injured or worse, it means the chances that he has are almost nil. The military is very big on notifications, as is USNA in particular.

Just be there for them and hold on for the ride. They haven't even thrown academics into the mix yet, and that's when things REALLY begin to get challenging.

I would not think that noon meal and formation is voluntary. There is some reason that this happened.
Nor would I. I never saw formations (particularly during Plebe Summer) be voluntary. There has to be a reason, and I can assure you it is NOT the norm. If, for the sake of discussion, it turns out that he is being so hassled at the table that he doesn't get a chance to eat, then a whole chain of events can kick in that is legitimate but VERY problematic. Best thing to do is simply ask if it's happened again, the next time you hear from him.

Just please do me a favor and a) let your Mid handle it, and b) respect the chain of command. When I was there as a Youngster, the class of '92 had one young lady who apparently thought her COC went something like this: "My mother, the President, the CNO, the Sup, the Dant, my Company Officer, my upperclassmen".

It was NOT received well by ANYONE down that chain.....

Zaphod - Please try to read my post a little more closely. I simply said that this is not the forum to bring up possible injuries or other issues that may have occured with one of the plebes. You are right, it is my first post, I just found this forum yesterday. I do have a daughter who is a plebe. I am not passing judgement on either of the individuals I refered to, I simply said that this is NOT the place to make an announcement like Jadler's. I would think that one as experienced in the military as you would know that. I have over 23 years active service AND have served on a casualty notification team, the WORST duty I have ever had BTW. That was done face to face with the family. Then if the family would like to post information about the incident, they can. Before you start calling people "Trolls" you might want to think about what you are saying.

FWIW - Having skimmed through this forum in the last 24 hours, I think alot of what you have posted is good and on the money. I am NOT trying to start a flame war with anyone.

I need to clarify my last post above.. when I posted this..

"Nursey! Lola was in the clinic the day Killer came in and was worried about him. She also knew he had recovered"

I was referring to Nurseypoo's son who is nicknamed Killer and who had a low blood sugar issue one day. I was referring to nothing else. Sorry for confusion. i should have clarified and been more sensitive.

^^^^Don't worry. We knew what you meant.

M2L-

'salright. 'sall good.

I'm glad Lola was there. At least there was someone he knew (a friendly face ;) ).

My son had really low blood sugar (has never happened before) and was severely dehydrated (kid has veins like a hose and it took 5 tries to get an IV). OUCH!!

If you're talking about being more sensitive to about "Killer," don't worry about it. I mentioned it before, so it's no secret. Plus, what are families for? :D

A "known fraud"? You don't KNOW a thing about me.
I notice that Jadler did not dispute the substance of what I said. So, tell me, where is the fraud?

We love our California Cousins! :)

Blackhawk,

One thing I forgot to mention is that it is normally seen as the responsibility of one Plebe to get a meal for a classmate who, for reasons beyond his control, was not able to get one. Back in my day, if I knew a classmate was going to be missing a meal due to a prolonged watch, illness, or some other uncontrollable event, I could go down to LT Food's (King Hall SUPPO) and get a box lunch or a meal-to-go for him.

Now, with the intervening years and the fact that King Hall is in a bit of a mess, I imagine the procedural particulars have changed, but I'd be surprised if no similar option was available.

I should point out that normally, Plebes only find out about it after a classmate goes hungry and the upperclassmen pitch a fit over it. It may be something you can ask your Plebe to look into...

Fischer,

Those that have been here awhile have become sensitive to certain patterns and "coincidences" that have almost invariably resulted from one or two persistent trolls who seem to enjoy nothing better than throwing wrenches into the works. Your post fit the pattern. If I was wrong, then I am most happy to apologize.

I was detailed to the Casualty Notification Team on my first ship, so I understand your concerns. Fortunately, I never had to pay "the visit" to anyone, a blessing for which I am unabashedly grateful.

Mom2Lola;

My D is also in Swim PEP. Knee blew-up on spill over bar in O course- info from phone call yesterday (3:11 sec)- before I heard the screaming in the background. Back in the day the Marine O course sent a lot of us recruits back to the barracks limping. Infirmary gave her some potent anti-inflammatory medicine and she says she'll be back hoofing it this week. OOHRAA

Semper Fi

Fisch, I think you were a victim of circumstances. There are certain posters that uncontrollably spin some of us up. I agree with you about your concerns but, since jadler is a reqular poster, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and didn't say anything. Probably about a second after he lost the ability to edit, he realized the errors of his ways. Welcome aboard.

Blackhawk:

All spinning aside, I can think of very very few instances where a plebe during plebe summer would miss gettig fed and it not be his fault. It may be a peanut butter, jelly, honey sundae, but he can get food. If you ever find out the particulars, let us know.

Zaphod - No blood no foul, apology accepted. Hopfully we can get off on the right foot now. :-)

USNA69 - Thanks for the welcome.

Already have. :o

Welcome to the board, and good luck to the DD. :)

jfischer,

I was responding to blackhawks quandry on what his/her son might have been talking about. This is a communication/information forum and there was nothing private that I even mentioned. I simply acknowledged that an incident occured!!! I highly doubt that I created a panic or fear (I definitely did not intend to)...the Commandant echoed exactly what I said....it is exactly what a command would respond to when someone might question them. One, I don't know who the plebe was and two, I wouldn't even dare to give the name out. That information is up to the family, as you mention.

I also posted this a bit under 48 hours after this happened. At this point, everyone who was involved knew the story. Most of the plebes were all briefed on the incident well after I posted this...thus, somewhat of an explanation was better than nothing, as other parents might have heard similar thoughts from their plebes. I left the description (which dadvet gave) up to the Commandant and the plebes (to tell their parents), as I did not think it was my place to share the details.

This in an informative forum....I gave facts and didn't mention anything private! As I mentioned, and hopefully those who have read my posts in the past know, I tend to only post factual and non-subjective information.

If you have more insight or think I am far off course (as you have a background), please feel free to private message me.

Jadler
You may--or may not--be aware that about the same time as your post appeared on here, on the parent's listserve a regular contributer posted a similar message. Her message, paraphrased, was something like:

We have many mids in and out of our house . . . recent news at the Academy was recently shared that should not be discussed on the listserve . . . in case the Moderators don't know about what happened, I just wanted to let everybody know that the incident should not be discussed . . . just in case

The next day, an Annapolis resident posted--paraphrased also--the following:

We live near the Academy . . . we knew about the incident shortly after it happened . . . we are not getting a lot of e-mails asking us about the incident . . . we should not be discussing this incident . . .

Your post came, I think, in between the above posts on the listserve. As I said, you may not have known anything about the above.
In any event, the two posts above just struck me as ridiculous. Sort of like junior high--if I can remember that far back--where a kid wants to let you know that he know a secret and really can't tell you about it just now.
So . . . your post struck me that way.

I agree w/ most others that your posts have been good; keep it up. Perhaps your initial post could have been a bit more constrained to Blackhawk's concern--and I can't remember how it was phrased, but I remember that you . . . well, it doesn't matter what I remember-- but overall, you continue to be a positive part of these forums. Unfortunately, other good contributors have been driven away. [See what happened to Shogun for example!]

I don't post much--since anything I have to say is, apparently, considered fradulent--but I thought I would clarify my reaction to your initial post.

Just me, or has this thread gotten off into the 'weeds' about something that really has NOTHING to do with the title "phone calls home"?

just my 2 cents !!!

Yep, just a bit. I did find two more non-smiling pictures of my dear plebeling on Thornton's. Not sure what I'm going to do about those, though. Son did write home and mentioned tourists not so much taking pictures of them, but watching them get yelled at. :(

And welcome new members DADVET and TIME2 and jfischer317 .. Do you all have plebes or current Midshipmen at USNA?

We are a great group of folks and Friends on CC and love new members, Glad to have you here! :)

NP, he's just got his game face on, that's all!!!!!!!!! Can't smile when you've got your game face on.

Let me see your war face!

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

:D

Z-did you have bearing contests during plebe summer??
