The Wake housing brochure recommends a 900 mhz phone- I can't seem to find one as they are dated. Can you use a 2.4 ghz? Thanks.

I don't know what to tell you on the cordless phones---so I'll bump you :). But I will tell you that my son just took a regular plug in phone and said he used it maybe a half dozen times all year---everyone seems to use their cell phones for everything. I know I called the room phone once during 2nd semester and they had not even set up their voice mail option.

2.4 Ghz phones interfere with wireless networks so I'm guessing you are not allowed to use them.

A sophmore recommended having a phone in the room. She didn't use it much, but said it is the best way to contact various campus services and professors. She also said that some take out food companies do not accept long distance phone numbers. Only 900mhz cordless or a hardwire phone is acceptable. Here is a link from amazon for cordless 900mhz phones:

You can't use a 2.4 ghz phone because of the wireless networks, and they really do interfere and keep anyone from having wireless internet. I didn't have a problem finding a 900 mhz phone. Just go to Wal Mart or Target and look at their cheapest remote phone. As of a year ago, they were still 900 mhz.

Alternately, just use a regular phone for the few times that you're going to need it. I do use my room phone all the time, but that's because I don't have a cell phone. I don't know of anyone else who uses their room phone with any regularity.

just get your cellphone with a winston salem area code (336).
