Photo w/ Application

Does it really help when you submit a photo with your application (at the school’s request). I mean, what if you look like a “sweet innocent studious” type they’ll want you and if you look like something you don’t wanna bring home to the folks they’ll toss your app? Anyone know how photos are evaluated?

lol! I've never quite understood that, but there's no real way to "approach" it and I'm not sure if your photo can actually "hurt" you. I do know, however, that if I were an admissions official, it'd help to put a face to an application. A sweet, innocent studious type doesn't necessary ring as a negative connotation. Now, if you've got spiked hair, deep deep dark eyeshadow and you've got one finger raised in your photo- then yeah, it might kill your application. But there's a lot of middle ground in between, so you shouldn't be worried.

I'll also add that I submitted a random photo of myself to schools that did not request it. I am an Asian-American, and because I don't like the regular, stereotypical chubby little nerd with glasses, combover and flat face- I felt it in my best interest. shrug it didn't seem to hurt my applications too much. Best of luck,

Emory was the only school that my S applied to that suggested a photo if you wanted to send one. I guess if they suggest it, you should try to keep them happy. Unless you look like a total social undesirable, it seems like it would help. He sent one with him and our dog. A cute dog probably will add 200 points to your SAT scores. :)
