i'm currently planning to take physical chem after finishing organic my freshman year. the premed people at my school have told me to take biochemistry instead. i would ideally like a good review of the material covered in general chemistry in order to be fresh for the mcat, which is why i chose to take physical chem. i know i can handle the work, but i'm wondering which class is going to be more useful to me in the near future. thanks.

Biochem is going to be much more useful than P-chem...at least that's what I think.

Biochem is far more useful. I was a physical chemist in college, and while it was super-interesting as an undergrad, I haven't seen any good use for it yet. That being said, I've only been in class for two weeks, so. :P

Honestly, if you like physical chemistry, take it! I'm certainly not at any disadvantage because of my physical chemistry background, and I didn't suffer through one or two semesters of a class I wasn't interested in.

In short, go p-chem! pompoms

If you only take one, take biochem. It's more useful in medical school, it's required/recommended by many medical schools, there's certainly much more biochem than p-chem on the MCAT, and biochem is easier.

I'm not in college yet, but from what I understand: p-chem is more application while biochem is more memorization. I am more inclined to problem-based science than memorization. Would biochem still be easier?

I went through (skimmed) a biochem textbook and found the material much easier than I had thought (other than the little bit of organic needed) but not very structure and concept-oriented.
