Physical fitness importance

Son just accepted to Summer Session. He is about 30 lbs overweight but muscular. I don’t know how many push ups he can do either. How big of a deal is PT for the summer experience?

You take a fitness test, called the CFA, during summer seminar which counts as your fitness test for the USNA application, so it would certainly be beneficial to show up in shape.

Thanks for the answer. So does he need to be able to run a 6 minute mile this summer or will he have time to improve before next year?

Obviously, the more he works out and the better he does on the CFA, the better his file will look for admissions. However, no, he does not need to be able to run a 6 minute mile for NASS. My DS could not run a 6 minute mile when he went (nor can he now) and he excelled at NASS and ultimately got an LOA and appointment to USNA.

@MidwesternHeart Thanks for taking to time to answer, but he decided it wasn’t for him anyway. Lots of luck to your son and congrats on the appointment!! My DS didn’t want to take a spot that someone who has been dreaming of the Navy and USNA their whole life would want when he wasn’t passionate about it.
