Physical Therapy Programs

I’m interested in physical therapy, and I’ve read that most people who want to become one get a BS in bio or related life sciences before getting their master’s degree and license. Does anyone know which schools in California have the best PT programs? (I’ve heard about USC having a good program but I would never be accepted there due to my SAT scores :/)

Start here and then go on the APTA website to look at rankings.

Undergraduate preparation for physical therapists may include majoring in one of the sciences, such as biology or physiology, though the specific major isn’t necessarily important. No matter which major is chosen, aspiring physical therapists need to complete specific undergraduate prerequisites in order to gain admission to a graduate PT program. These courses often include statistics, psychology, biology, chemistry and physics, among others. It’s often smart for undergraduates to gain volunteer or internship experience with a physical therapy provider as well, since observation hours are a common requirement for entry to PT graduate programs.

You can do your undergrad anywhere and once you have your BS/BA degree with required PT courses, you can then apply to a DPT program. Are you looking for a direct entry program/accelerated program to apply as a Freshman?

As the competition for acceptance into PT programs has become increasingly competitive , I strongly suggest direct entry programs for those students are sure that they want to pursue their PT degree . If a student is unsure , I wouldn’t recommend a direct entry program . JMO.
