I want to major in Physical Therapy, and am caught between going to Sac State or SFSU.
I know that San Francisco is an expensive city to live in, and am not sure if it’s better to go there despite the expenses.
Any info will help!
Thank you to everyone in advance! :x
Well…first of all…physical therapy is a DPT, doctorate of physical therapy…not an undergrad program.
So…are you talking about undergrad or grad?
Also, is this a financial aid question?
I’m still a senior in high school, so this college thing is really new to me, as you can tell!
I’m talking about undergrad I guess?
Well, is this a better question:
Which school would better prep me for going into the Physical Therapy Program?
Both schools would give you a solid base to apply to PT school. The important factors to consider are:
- Costs. Is one more affordable than the other since you will be paying for a DPT program after undergrad.
- Which school could you get a higher GPA to apply to PT school? 3.5 or higher
- Which school would be you feel the most comfortable attending?
College Major
You are not required to select a particular major in order to be eligible for admission to a PT program. The most common undergraduate majors among PT students include exercise science, biology, kinesiology, and psychology. In selecting a college major, consider how you will you satisfactorily complete the prerequisite courses for your designated physical therapist programs in addition to the college/university’s degree and major requirements. Work with your academic and/or prePT advisor to plan your course schedule. For additional information about college majors for the most recent applicant pool, review the PTCAS Applicant Data Report.
College Course Prerequisites
The course prerequisites for admission vary significantly across PT education programs. Visit the institutional website or the PTCAS directory to determine what courses are required by each institution. PT programs may require preprofessional (pre-PT/undergraduate) science courses to be completed in a 4-year university/college within the 7-10 years prior to enrollment. Be prepared to identify what classes you have taken (or will take) to fulfill the program’s course requirements. The most commonly required course prerequisites are below:
Anatomy / A&P 1 with lab
Physiology / A&P 2 with lab
Biology 1 (not botany or zoology)
Biology 2 (not botany or zoology)
General Chemistry 1 with lab
General Chemistry 2 with lab
General Physics 1 with lab
General Physics 2 with lab
Psychology
Statistics
Oh my gosh!
Thank you so much!
This is extremely helpful!

Sac is undeniably a cheaper place to live but, at this stage, I suggest you apply to several schools, tour each campus and pick the one that admits you and will work for you. I don’t know your qualifications and interests but, Sonoma, SJSU and Chico are a couple of others in N Cal to consider.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I’ll look into those as well!
and presume you are a CA resident?
