I have posted the pictures I took last week on the 26th and 27th if anyone wants to look.
I have a lot of Cobras and some of “I’s” from the swearing in ceremony.
I have some good ones of Orange lanyards…not sure who they are. Those pictures are in the category of “after the swearing in ceremony.”
I have tried to label the pictures according to color of the lanyards…but I couldn’t always see them.
The site is…[GoNavy’s photos- powered by SmugMug](USAFA - Laura Thomas)
Sorry, but if you want to see them, you will have to type, Go Navy! I started using this site when my oldest started at Navy!
Anyway…if you haven’t seen your kids, here is one more chance!

I assume one of the two girls is your daughter...and the other a fellow classmate? friend before? Do you know what squadron she went to...hard to tell seems almost same colored lanyard.

Thanks afa12! I imagine Thanksgiving will be lots of fun..Navy, Airforce. Any other services represented?
Our family is mostly Navy and Marine Corps...MissMuff took a lot of heat when she chose AFA over Annapolis.

Thanks afa12!!!

You were so sweet to take so many of the Interceptors for me! Thank you, thank you! I will always cherish that first photo!

Interesting change in PC gear. They actually have their names printed on them now instead of handwritten. Smart move IMO.

Potter was really bumbed out about that. It was an upperclass thing she had some attachement too.

I agree with potter...i remember how much trouble I got in for wearing one of my printed shirt before Recognition.

IMO there's going to be a lot more 4-digs running around acting like uppers during the semester than there used to be...

Heard the same thing...now no way to tell rank when in PC gear. It was something to be earned.

I had the same sense about it, but I think its unprofessional to wear the hand drawn ones. I just say that the punishment for trying to be an upperclassman should be fit for the crime.

What's "PC gear?"

Physical conditioning gear. Its the white T-shirt with blue mesh shorts.

Thanks, Hornet. I kept thinking "Politically Correct" which was making no sense at all. Other ideas which came to mind included "pretty cool," "partially corrected," "princely clothes."

There needs to be some way of distinguishing rank on PC gear. Every other uniform has it somewhere. It's impossible to tell now...

...and I agree. It's disappointing to hear that they're being given things that we had to earn.

Perhaps they should create ringer shirts in the class color...that would be easy

Well on the flip side there is no rank insignia on the AD PT uniform either. We don't salute officers or for that matter really know who is an officer unless we already know the person. I know I am not an upperclassman and as such in your opinion I probably don't have the right to an opinion but I actually like the idea that fitness is not above rank and that all AF personnel should be treated as equals while doing PT.

I absolutely agree that fitness is not above rank, but PT here isn't like PT in the AD world. On active duty, it makes sense for the uniform to lack rank - I have no problem at all with that. But here, four degree life isn't something that stops after your 9-5. It's a continual, 24 hour per day thing. I guess it's hard to explain, but four degrees (and basics) should always stand out, because there should always be pressure on them. Again, it's probably a little difficult to understand completely until you've been through it, but there's a method behind the madness here. It's important that there's always separation and a clear distinction between four digs and upperclassmen, which isn't really necessary in the more laid back (and normal) world of active duty.

Just my $.02

To go along with PETKO, too many 4 degrees take advantage of things like unranked uniforms to try and act like an upperclassman which is both dishonorable and pathetic in my eyes. Some can't seem to handle 9 months of sacrifice for all the taxpayers and government gives us. Like I said before, punish impersonators harshly.

+$0.02

I can see how that would make a difference. I was under the mistaken impression that you wore the PT uniform only for PT.

I stand corrected and fully agree with your dissent.

To be fair though, shouldn't the displeasure be directed at those who made the change? These 4 digs probably don't even know that they PT's didn't used to have printed names and if they do know, have no control over it. As a parent looking hard through webguys photos, I appreciate any help I can get.

Maybe you uppers should convince them to also write their names above the printed names as a sign of knowing their place this year. I bet a lot of them would do it if it didn't get them extra training!

I suspect that having the printed ones is to help save the cost and hassle of both printed and handwritten. Looks much better as well.

Why should displeasure be made at those that made the change? Change is a part of our life, being unable to change is very bad for us. The issue we have is that we KNOW many will take advantage of the lack of discrimination between uppers and 4 digs to try and get away with impersonating an upperclassmen. They have complete control over that and know right and wrong well enough to know they are deceiving others.

I am sure the cadre have told them many times that they are lucky to have printed PC gear. With no more ironing and shining, I'm positive it was another piece thrown at them to remind them of how much "easier" they now have it. Something said every year.
