Pierce to either UCLA or UCSD as a bio major

im new to the whole pierce thing and i was thinking about joining the honors program
how is it?
wat classes would i have to take?
any info on this would be great
thanx

pierce has a great honors program; however, unlike other honors programs pierce requires a minimum of 24 honors units to be honors certified, i guess that increases the prestige of the program since most cc’s only require 15 or 18 units to be certified.

i recommend you visit the honors office, and talk to chris lauterdale who is one of the honors directors, she’s usually in her office most of the day. she’ll walk you through the whole “honors program” process.

i crammed the whole 24 units of honors classes into a year so it was really time consuming for me, but it is not hard at all. You should definately take cinema 107 during the summer to knock off one. Try to take any honors classes with oborn cus she’s really easy. Avoid Bruzzese for soc15 religion cus that is the hardest class i have ever taken. Most of them require a couple of extra papers or a project. You can do all official honors classes or u can do an honors contract for 12/24 units which means u do an extra project or a research paper for any regular class you want (unofficial honors). Also, avoid art 101 with abbamontian cus she got lame at the end, almost killed the class by assigning a research paper which we had to do in like one and half weeks during the finals. Chris is really nice and she will guide you through everything

I definately think the honors program was worth it, defintely helped me getting into UCLA. TAP is not really for UCSD so it doesnt really matter, but if you are mostly aiming for UCLA, it would be good  Good luck!!

if you have any questions about pierce or anything regarding the honors program, feel free to send me a PM or something, ill be glad to help!

My friends and I went to Pierce and didn’t do honors and still got into UCLA and Cal. We had a wide range of majors. I think most important is to keep a high GPA. I think that outranks honors or anything else.

If you would like to get a full list of classes/teachers I think you should take, let me know. I know almost all the good teachers. Taking health with Rose over the summer to grab an extra 3 units before I start UCLA in the fall: 25% of the grade is attendance, 50% is GROUP quizzes that WE write, 25% is a project with peer grading. Not exactly difficult :)
