PITT and FINANCIAL AID AWARDS: FRUSTRATING

OK pitt, cmon and send out fin. aid awards... d and s accepted in NOVEMBER, still not award??? people have posted mid april... most schools ask for MAY deadline for acceptance. Pitt can't get FA awards out sooner? Its amazing how some of these schools don't respond till the 11th hour. d still waiting on decisons from Columbia, U Penn, Hopkins. they are supposed to be online by tonight...seems like these schools could process these a little more timely or at least provide extended deadlines. ok. done gripping. best of luck to everyone as we near comittment time.

I called financial aid on Friday and the staff said to me that I only qualified for a loan. She was patient and told me to call the admissions office for merit information. I have a 1670 SAT and 31ACT. Admissions staff told me that I did not qualify for merit even though I have higher scores. You also have to be top 5 percent of your class. There is no legacies either. The person at admissions office was very rude and not helpful to me. She repeated the same line about applying on time and getting things in. We had Sandy and our term was pushed off by two days. so my mid year grades went On 7th jan. Looks like you have to be #1 in your class or low income/poor for Money. If you have parents who work and take care of you then forget it. I am so frustrated and have given up on Pitt. Why bother when they don’t care.

So true. I have an SAT of 2210 and GPA of 4.0 and got no merit. I suppose because I’m not in the top 5%.

We’re fairly poor, and Pitt offered about 5000/year in grants (and mostly not from Pitt itself.) Everything else= loans and work-study.

Financial aid is out. My D got hers yesterday.

Did it come in the mail or onine?

In the mail. We are in Ohio if it makes a diff!

They are asking me to provide my parents W2 and other crap. No other colleges have asked me that. Heck no. I am sending my deposit somewhere else.

Did you fill out a FAFSA? That is basically what you have to put into that…I’m surprised the other schools didn’t require that.

Phonedog…sounds like you were selected for verification. If so, the federal government required Pitt to collect those forms to verify what you put on the FAFSA is correct. We were selected also.

What happens if I don’t send it back with the required documents ? Will I be disqualified for financial aid ? Its quite late now to do anything.

If you were selected for verification I don’t believe you can get federal aid without complying. If you do the retrieval tool on the fafsa you won’t have to get the tax transcript. I can’t remember if you still have to send W2s. I’m not sure if its different at each school or if the process is standardized…GATech had to do our verification.
