I just got denied from the honors. I guess they place a lot of emphasis on the essays as the stats are random.
So what does accepting Pitt Honors admissions mean?? Should only the people who are committed and have paid the regular enrollment fee do this? And is there a difference between accepting the honors admissions now versus a few months later?
Wow. We’re in shock. My daughter has a35 ACT and 3.95 UW GPA with 5 APs taken so far (As in all) and 4 more this year. And she was waitlisted.
I don’t think you ever have to accept a school offer before May 1.
I’m so excited that I got in to honors! I got accepted to Swason for engineering with a 35 ACT and a 4.38 GPA, in addition to receiving 10k merit. I felt my essays were strong although admittedly my extracurriculars are somewhat weak. This was a nice pick me up today, I really wasn’t sure how I was going to fare with the greater number of applicants and such.
My son was accepted into Pitt Honors today. @aatd2 I just read my son’s letter and you can accept Pitt Honors without committing to enroll or paying the deposit. I guess it helps them gauge interest level?
Hi @aatd2,
Good question! This online acceptance form just lets us know your intentions and helps us identify those who decline their offer of Pitt Honors admission or acceptance of wait list.
The final commitment still has to be made through https://oafa.pitt.edu/committopitt/

@MominPA2017 Pitt’s Honors College admissions, just as any other college admissions, take into account of stats, and your daughter undoubtedly had high scores, but adcoms also take into account of the supplemental essays. IMO, I think Pitt placed a heavier emphasis on the quality/content of these essays as the majority of their applicants likely had similar stats. So the only distinguishing factor would be essays and extenuating circumstances if applicable.
My point is, I’m sure your daughter will end up at a great university with her stats, but college admissions are very unpredictable, and you shouldn’t expect your daughter to be admitted simply based on her stats. Best of luck to your daughter, and I hope she’ll end up where she’s happiest!
I had a 1500 (780 m+ 720 rw) I’m a little surprised to have gotten in because my score seems to be lower than others who got in. I think my extra curricular are pretty unique and I had some pretty good awards and I think that’s what got me in!
Hey guys, I got accepted on Dec. 18 and Got accepted to the Guarenteed Engineering thingy, when will I hear back about scholarship information? It’s been nearly a month and i’m worried I did all three essays, honors college essays, and have pretty good scores/gpa.
Thanks!
Waitlisted from honors; disappointed and happy all at the same time. I was hoping to be able to accept Pitss offer today as it is my top choice, yet my family wants me to hear about other schools and aid. If I had gotten Honors, it would have tipped the scale and I could have accepted tonight. It is what it is, I knew it was a long shot and very competitive.
Congratulations to everyone who got into Honors tonight.
Congratulations to everyone who got into Honors tonight.
“accidental double post”
denied with perfect stats (36 ACT, 4.0 UW) and 25k/year merit scholarship. I didn’t think my essays were bad…a little disappointed but oh well.
Are you guys seeing the Honors status on the portal or as a snail mail letter?
Wow this is all craziness to read how much the process has changed. Congrats to those of you accepted and for those of you not accepted I wouldn’t let it really change much about your decision to attend Pitt.
My daughter and a lot of her friends who are in the “Honors College” at Pitt don’t take any Honors classes. They found their plates to be more than full with regular engineering classes. She is happily involved in campus life in many groups and as it turns out I don’t think she does much with the Honors outings and such. She did enjoy living in the honors dorm freshman year but it was not an island of pureness and there was something to be found for everyone and it appears those who want to party still found ways to party but she also found plenty of likeminded friends who enjoyed other things.
It sounds like going forward the Honors College may have more of a specific purpose and plan so that’s good since currently it is quite loose and vague. But if you like Pitt, I wouldn’t let the lack of Honors make you think Pitt isn’t for you.
got waitlisted for honors… but looks like we need to commit to pitt if you decide to stay on the waiting list.
Daughter denied with 1570 SAT, NMSF, 4.0 GPA (5.1 UW), 15 AP classes, and 20K yr merit (OOS). Random but I’m sure with so many high-performing students it came down to essays and demonstrated interest.
