My son was accepted into Honors with a 1500 SAT, 4.3 GPA, National Merit Scholar SF and $15k merit. In my opinion, his essays did a good job of showing his enthusiasm for learning and his unique qualities.
Accepted to Honors!
Major: Architecture
ACT: 33
GPA: 3.97
OOS
Merit Aid: $5,000 a year
Hail to Pitt!!
@isitdoneyet May I ask ethnicity? Just curious.
@praknahs May I ask ethnicity?
Rejected from honors!
Major: engineering
ACT: 35
UW GPA: 4.0
OOS
I’m guessing DD’s application lacked demonstrated interest. She got into Michigan Engineering OOS and will probably end up there.
Daughter received her acceptance email today, but no word on honors or merit. Hopefully we’ll find out when they send the official letter.
@fiidad , I think you need to apple by December 15th to be considered for scholarships/merit aid. I am not 100% sure. Anyone know better please advise. Here is the link I go by https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/

@asr712 Thanks for the scholarships link. My daughter applied before Dec. 15th. I emailed our admissions rep a few days after applying and I was told she would be considered for merit scholarships. The acceptance email she received was a video welcoming her to Pitt, but no other info.
Hi. To those of you who were awarded merit money, did it show up in your portal when you checked your application status? Or did they send you an email? Or did you only get a letter in the mail?
@Nasagirl I got a letter. Then I got an additional card over Christmas congratulating me on the scholarship. I haven’t found anything in my portal referencing the scholarship.
@csNotBS okay, thank you!
This genuinely makes me think they made a mistake about accepting me. My stats are 1460 SAT, 30 ACT, 3.83 UW GPA, 4 year swimmer, senior captain, other EC’s and awards. I thought my essays were good but not good enough to get me accepted. So sorry but I’m sure you have other opportunities coming at you from all directions.
@justaparent Wondering if your daughter did receive any notification of merit aid. We received that same letter today as well as an acceptance to the honors college but no mention of merit.
@carachel2, @fiidad, @ibstressing2019, @mommdc, @nodebtwanted My daughter received an email from Pitt 4 p.m today. Totally unexpected pleasant surprise. $7000 in panther pride award . Making her total award package $22,000. She was excepted in to Honors college a few weeks ago. Counting my blessings. We are out of state and had steller ec’s, community serve leadership project, internship at government lab last summer and this summer and her essays were good I thought. Looks like Pitt really wants her. Looking forward to other decisions from her other schools. Pittt was her top choice - most loved school. Hail to pitt =D>
I tagged a few who have been helpful and cheered me on. I hope that’s ok.
Admitted to Honors with $15K award package! 4.03 GPA, 1560 SAT. Super happy!
Also, a question: I haven’t received my letter yet, but the email said “We are pleased to offer you the following financial aid package education for the 2019-2020 academic year”. On the portal, my scholarship is only showing for 2019-2020. Does that mean that it’s a one year scholarship, and I will be paying full tuition for the other three?
Oops, read a bit more carefully and realized that it’s a University Scholarship. I guess that would be 4 years!
The letter should say if the scholarship is renewable and what GPA is required (3.0 I think).
@asr712 I’m glad she got a good scholarship and Panther Pride award. I think this is a need based grant.
Hi,
I just recieved my financial aid package with a panther pride award of 12,000 a year. Although I have not received an honors college decision yet nor have I recieved merit. Should I assume that I am not getting in and not receiving merit if they already sent my package?
We received an email from Pitt today telling us that my daughter’s financial aid package is ready. $5500 in loans and… that was it…
We are in state, would hopefully qualify for financial aid (2nd of 3 kids with another one currently in college), and she was asked to apply for the honors college. Her stats are very solid but not stellar (34 ACT, 3.79 unweighted, 4.2+ weighted). She applied by 12/15 and sent her honors college app in by the deadline but she hasn’t heard back about that either. I’d be interested in hearing if this community has any insight - I thought she’d get at least a little something in merit or financial aid. I’m hoping they just haven’t finished sending out all of the aid.
@jjplus3 I also recieved an email today saying that I got $5500 in loans. I am out of state. I have not heard back about merit awards and I am afraid that this might mean I am not getting any scholarships from them
