Hi @Ighosh, which GAP are you speaking of? Each school has a different process but typically, notifications are sent out 2-4 weeks after the initial admissions decision.

Hi @hailtopitt1787 Sorry, I should have been more clear - I’m talking about the GAP Medicine program. We completed the application last year. Any idea when the interview notifications will come out? Thanks!
I just got accepted to Pitt and was wondering if anyone know which scholarships I qualify for (if any). I applied in January, before the main round honors deadline. Looking through the website, it looks like all the deadlines are in Nov/Dec, which I missed! haha.
@Ighosh, those selected to interview will be notified by the School of Medicine in mid-February. Good luck!
@intricuit You know I’m not sure how tight they are with those scholarship deadlines! They are pretty tight with the stats and the general range/threshold is posted on their website. ACT 33+ and GPA 3.8+. Are you in that range?
Can anyone advise on whether receipt of financial aid package with no Merit included means that no Merit is going to be offered? My D has 1400, 32ACT, 4.4 WGPA and got merit offers all other schools. Wondering what to expect from Pitt.
@2023dad33 Your D doesn’t meet the minimum SAT or ACT cutoff for merit:
Minimum SAT score of 1480 or ACT composite score of 33
Thank you @scholardad. I read the following on their website “NOTE: The above criteria are provided for the purposes of guidelines only and not meant as scholarship requirements or guarantees.” so wasn’t sure how strictly they adhered to these guidelines. I’m not counting on getting anything, was just wondering how official the silence was …
There definitely is some leeway on stats for merit. My DD received $10,000 merit and Honors College with a 30 act. We were very pleasantly surprised!
@girlzmom3 interesting! And super rare. $10,000 per year? or total?
@carachel2 I sent in an SAT of 1440, which is about equivalent to a 33 I think. Maybe there’s hope! Thanks!
Per year. I really think it was looked at very holistically- great ec’s and great essays.
We did not except to receive anything or get HC after reading stats of the past but just goes to show you never know!!
@girlzmom3 eh, I’m not sure. In the years past it certainly wasn’t holistic. Pitt is usually super predictable in regards to sticking to their threshold for merit. Is there some sort of geographical or other diversity your student might bring to the table? Sometimes that helps! Regardless, congrats to you and your daughter!
I’m wondering about the main advantages of the honors program and what my son might be missing out on by not being in the honors program. I know so many honors programs differ in terms of the benefits they offer. I was disappointed S was not accepted to honors, but we are definitely still considering Pitt since they gave him a $25,000 scholarship.
@elena13 In the past Pitt’s honors participation seemed to be available if wanted, but not required.
You could also petition to take honors courses, or join honors college in later years.
The honors college selection process has been much more competitive this year, it definitely doesn’t seem to just be stats based.
I think this year honors students are guaranteed and required to live in honors housing. And I believe they have priority registration.
My D is a 4th year student at Pitt and was honors eligible upon acceptance, but hasn’t taken any honors courses.
The scholarship is definitely more valuable than being in the honors college as a freshman.
Thanks @mommdc !
I agree with @mommdc. Mine is in the honors college but has taken zero honors classes. She has enjoyed honors housing for sure and they have an easier and more predictable housing process. She loves living on upper campus.
She is in engineering and has never had trouble getting the classes she needs. However, for sure on our parents page I’ve read of students in Dietrich having a hard time getting their desired classes. It usually works out, but sometimes it is challenging it seems. Having priority registration would be a big plus there.
The scholarship is super valuable. If your student really likes Pitt and the $$ makes it doable, I wouldn’t let the lack of Honors acceptance be a barrier. It really is weird they would offer mega scholarship $$ to a student and then turn them down for Honors…especially given that in all the years past, Pitt Honors program has been a pretty vague and underutilized program on campus.

Most of honors courses have pre-requirements
Even the students in hours college may not be able to take these honors courses.
(As I known, most of students try NOT to take honors courses for keeping higher GPAs)
Let me give you an example,
0715 Foundations of Biology 1 (UHC) requires students have AP test score equal/greater 4
there are 35 seats and all filled in in 2018 fall term
after one semester,
0716 Foundations of Biology 2 (UHC) PREQ: BIOSC 0715 (MIN GRADE: ‘C’) or students have AP test score equal/greater 5
there are 35 seats but only 21 seats are taken in 2019 spring term
why?
Do students not want to continue or join “0716 Foundations of Biology 2” ?
(well, 16 of 35 attended “0715 Foundations of Biology 1” decided NOT to continue attending “0716 Foundations of Biology 2”.
The truth is, honors courses are highly competitive, only best ones can survive, the rest of them will be weeded out.)
If your son has a great AP score and wants to challenge himself for honors courses, he can bring his AP test score to see advisor. I believe he can still be in any honors courses he likes to have.
regarding honors housing, I do not see any differences there.
(some of honor college students do NOT stay in honors housing dormitories)
Finally, congratulations your son get $25,000 scholarship.
(A genuine gem always shines, you do not need a honors college title to prove it.)
Hello! I’m an prospective student and applied before the January 15th Honors College deadline. I’ve gotten both my acceptance email (2/4) and my acceptance letter (2/8), plus my info for financial aid on the app, but no notifications on my honors college decision. When should I expect to get that???
Is this true? I thought I had asked about this a few months back and been told no. It could be a deciding factor for my S because one of the disadvantages of Pitt School of Computing and Information that we’ve heard is that it can be hard to get into the classes you want.
