Pitt class of 2023 honors college/ merit aid

@asr712 Thank you - I think it was about three or four weeks ago.

@carachel2 Thank you. I guess my thought was that if he was initially given $10,000 and then has the chance at the Chancellor’s Scholarship, something in between might make sense if he doesn’t get Chancellor’s. But given that we won’t know the result for some time, I didn’t want to bother Pitt with asking for more until we know - but we don’t want to ask too late.

@kpmmom yep, we thought the same. But alas…it was like crickets after the Chancellor’s interview until the thin white envelope arrived. It was an honor to be a finalist but it was a hefty little expense having to fly there, hotel, etc. for…nothing.

They may have dramatically changed it this year who knows? They do seem to change things up every now and then and it is a new Honors Dean who might make his own rules. I’ll cross my fingers for you!

@hailtopitt1787 I should have tagged you on my earlier question. (Sorry to everyone else for the repeat here.) My OSS son was accepted to the Honors College with $10,000 in merit aid. He was invited for a Chancellor’s Scholarship interview (we’re coming next weekend and he’s so excited!). My question: If he is not accepted for the Chancellor’s Scholarship, will he be considered for something more than the $10,000 merit he’s already been granted? Thank you.

Hi @kpmmom,

Good question and congrats on your son being selected for an interview! The merit award he has received will remain the same if he is not selected. Financial aid packages have been going out so if he qualifies for any additional funding, it would be through FAFSA. Lastly, as an admitted student he will have access to our scholarship database PittFund$Me so it would be good for him to familiarize himself with the database to start searching for additional scholarships he may qualify for.

I hope this helps and good luck to him at the interview!

Thanks for the response @hailtopitt1787. We think he and Pitt are a great fit.

Hello,

are you notified if you are not selected for honors? Or only if accepted. Also where would this be on student portal!

@hailtopitt1787 I applied to UPitt on 1/15, meeting the honors college deadline, but there was a mix-up between my high school and Pitt, and my transcripts didn’t reach them until 1/28. I just received my acceptance today, and I was wondering if I will still be considered for honors college admission and merit aid. Thanks in advance!

Hi @krflame4

If this mix-up was communicated with your admission processor then you should be okay, you can verify with them: http://oafa.pitt.edu/processors/

The honors decisions will be going out sometime tomorrow via e-mail and a hard copy letter going out next week so you should have your answer by tomorrow!

As far as merit goes, the deadline to be automatically considered for merit awards was December 15 and you didn’t quite meet that deadline.

Congrats on being admitted!

Hi @fordanjen,

Admitted, denied and waitlisted students will all hear from our office by tomorrow via e-mail and next week via hard copy mailed letter.

Good luck!

It’ll be interesting to see if Pitt Honors rejects National Merit Finalists like its cross-state rival Penn State/Schreyer.

@AKJones Pitt has denied ACT 35 students before to engineering. The student had an unweighted GPA of 3.2-3.4 I believe. Of course no one knows the circumstances of the GPA story but I would think the low range GPA definitely played into the picture. I wouldn’t be surprised if the NMF students denied admissions had a similar overall picture?

Hi,
This morning I received an updated financial aid document with the “Pitt Success Grant” of $2500 on top of my $12,000 panther pride award. Do you think this updated financial status means that I will be admitted to the honors college?? Thanks !

@hailtopitt1787 I’m wondering the same thing as @2023baby , what does this mean?

@2023baby and @cadyrene05, these updated packages have nothing to do with Pitt Honors admissions. These packages are just updated to reflect the new Pitt Success Pell Match Program. Honors notifications will be coming out soon!

@hailtopitt1787 Are these honors notifications cover students currently in pending status for honors?

@2023baby Panther Pride and Pitt Success are 100% need based aid and have nothing to do with test scores, honors college, etc.

@hailtopitt1787. I was wondering around what time honors notifications will be released tonight/if they will still be released today? Also, will it be via email or on the portal. Thanks!

@hailtopitt1787 have the Honors notifications come out yet? would they be sent via email or somewhere on the portal? If we have received nothing, does that mean no honors? My son received a merit award to Swanson engineering and has very high stats (1590 SAT, 4.38 GPA, 800 Math 2 SAT…)

Thank you!
