@blazinamazin2023, Pitt Honors and scholarship consideration are separate, so missing the Pitt Honors priority deadline will not affect your scholarship review. Students who apply by the priority deadline are eligible for the Chancellor’s Scholarship which is awarded by Pitt Honors, but the rest of the university merit scholarships are not tied to Pitt Honors at all.
@hailtopitt1787 Thanks again for your help! Is there a certain date that we will hear about scholarship and merit aid by, or is that also on a rolling basis? And if it is rolling, is there a certain time period you can expect it by (ex: 4-6 weeks after your admissions notification date)?
@blazinamazin2023, It is rolling. There isn’t a predictable time period, necessarily. The Scholarship Committee sometimes reviews students a number of times before making a decision - which makes timing hard to predict. But all scholarships are awarded by March 1 at the latest. Good luck!
@hailtopitt1787 I think I am understanding the merit aid process but just wanted to clarify. If you end up not being awarded any merit aid from Pitt, the only way to know that would be to wait until 3/1? Is there a way to know you that you have been reviewed and not selected for merit aid other than waiting for the 3/1 deadline to come and go? Obviously, that is not ideal if trying to evaluate affordability compared to other early admittances/offers. Thanks again for your feedback!
@sable999, We do not send letters to students who have not been selected for a scholarship. We make sure that we finalize the whole process by March 1 and we also get Financial Aid notification letters out before that date so that students still have plenty of time to make a decision before the May 1 decision deadline. Hope that helps clarify!
@blazinamazin2023, Yes, there are. You can find information about all of the types of scholarships we offer at oafa.pitt.edu/scholarships.
And I just want to clarify what you mean by stackable? Students are able to use a combination of whatever is offered to them - Pitt merit scholarships, outside scholarships, and financial aid - to meet their need. However, the total amount of aid you receive cannot exceed the cost of attendance and our financial aid staff will work with you to ensure that the total aid you receive is within the federal guidelines.
@hailtopitt1787 Are there any full ride scholarships that we would have to apply for (besides the Chancellor’s Scholarship)? And yep, you answered my second question completely. Thanks for your help!
@hailtopitt1787
Is there a seperate set of questions that need to be answered for scholarships in addition to questions for honors program? Now I’m concerned that my son only filled out essays for Pitt honors!
@blazinamazin2023, The only other ones you have to apply for are the PA leadership scholarships (the Stamps and Nordenberg scholarships). Students who are in-state residents are eligible to apply and need to submit a supplemental application by December 1. https://oafa.pitt.edu/pa_scholars/index.php
All other scholarships are part of our automatic review process!
@doge123, To be considered for Pitt scholarships, he should have responded to our general Short Answer Questions. If he didn’t do so on the application, he can fill them out using the form on our website. He should do so before December 15 at the latest (we recommend doing it as soon as possible since the review process for scholarships is rolling): https://oafa.pitt.edu/apply/admissions-process/short-answer-questions/
@hailtopitt1787
Thanks for the reply but I’m still confused. Your statement and website both state that applicants are automatically part of scholarship jllliyyureview process and no further application is necessary but there are seperate questions you need to fill out for scholarship consideration? I know at least one of these short answer questions was one my son filled out for honors program so is there a way to confirm this before he fills out possibly for a second time? Thanks for all the extremely helpful information.
The Pitt Honors questions are also on the application, but are only for Honors consideration. You can see those questions here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/pitthonors/
Student received merit scholarship info by mail. But there is no mention of Honors college.
does merit scholarship automatically mean admission to honors college?
Also there was no mention of Chancellor’s Scholarship along with the merit scholarship. will Chancellor’s Scholarships be announced later?
can a student be part of both Scholars program and Honors college?
are there any scholarships that OOS can apply in addition to merit scholarship given?
I know that the primary contact method for scholarships is through mail, but would scholarship notifications ever be posted on the portal or sent to your email as well?
