<p>Yes, it is possible to be invited to both. </p>
<p>@hailtopitt1787 - I was invited to apply to both the Stamps and the Chancellor’s scholarships. Would it be a good idea to apply to a particular one or to both? Can you shed some light on how they compare in terms of selectivity and selection criteria?</p>
<p>Thanks!</p>
<p>If you are invited to apply to both scholarships, you can feel free to apply to both! There is no need to choose one or the other, you will not be penalized in any way for applying to both. Here is further information about each scholarship.</p>
<p>Stamps: <a href=“Admissions | University of Pittsburgh - Home”>https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/stamps-leadership-scholarship/</a></p>
<p>Chancellor: <a href=“http://cscholar.honorscollege.pitt.edu/index.html”>http://cscholar.honorscollege.pitt.edu/index.html</a></p>
<p>My son applied to Pitt by 10/15 and received an invitation to apply to Stamps on 11/20. If he has not yet received anything concerning the Chancellor scholarship, does that mean he probably will not, or is there still a chance? Also, will Stamps notify him either way concerning an interview? Lastly, if he does not make it as a finalist for either of these scholarships, when could he expect to hear from Pitt about a possible lesser scholarship? Thanks.</p>
<p>@MomofJDJJ, my daughter got her acceptance letter at the end of August, the email with the Stamps invitation at the end of September and her letter informing her of her full tuition scholarship was dated December 1. In the letter she was invited to apply for the Chancellor’s scholarship within 3 weeks.</p>
<p>We have not heard anything further on the Stamps scholarship, but I think interviews will probably be in March because the application deadline for merit consideration is January 15 and it will take some time to review those applications.</p>
@hailtopitt1787 When will students who have applied for the Stamps scholarship be notified about interviews? Will they be contacted either way or only if they were chosen to interview? Thank you!
@momofjdjj, All students who have submitted a completed application for admission prior to January 15, 2015 are automatically reviewed for the Stamps Leadership Scholarship. Several weeks after being admitted to the University, students meeting the eligibility requirements will be notified via email and requested to submit additional materials. The University of Pittsburgh will interview up to 20 Stamps Leadership Scholarship Semifinalists by March 1, 2015. Finalists will then be interviewed by representatives of the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation who will make the final selection of five recipients. Recipients of the Stamps Leadership Scholarships will be notified of their selection on or before April 1, 2015.
@hailtopitt1787 Thank you. However, my question pertained to those students who were invited and did already submit an application for the Stamps Scholarship. When will they be notified about interviews? Will they be contacted either way about an interview or only if they were chosen to interview? Thanks for clarifying.
@MomofJDJJ, Oh goodness! I am sorry I confused your question with another question I was answering elsewhere. Let me check with a member of our Scholarship Committee to see if I can get that information for you. I do know that they are planning for semi-finalist interviews to be completed by March 1st, so you shouldn’t have much longer to wait. January 15th is the last day for students who submit applications to be automatically reviewed for merit scholarships (including Stamps). So it won’t be until after they have seen everyone’s apps and have invited all those who qualify to participate in the first round that they will start inviting semi-finalists to interview.
@MomofJDJJ, I just verified that everyone who applies for Stamps will be notified if they have made it to the semifinals or not by mid-February.
Good luck!
Thanks!
@hailtopitt1787 is the semifinals for Stamps on a particular weekend, or is it done thru phone interviews?
Just wondering if there is a weekend that kids who are hoping should keep unscheduled until they hear.
I am not sure of the exact dates they will be conducting interviews, but the committee will contact you directly to schedule an interview if you are selected. You should hear one way or the other by mid-February and the interviews will happen in late February/early March, so you should have enough warning to clear your schedule. Good luck!
Thank you!
My daughter received an email today saying that she won’t be considered further for the Stamps scholarship.
I am a bit confused, I thought decisions wouldn’t go out until everyone eligible to apply had a chance to apply? I would not have expected that someone who might have applied right by January 15 would have even been notified that they could apply for Stamps, let alone submitted the application yet (since you have 3 weeks).
But maybe there was a pre-selection process at work here.
I guess it’s better to know so you’re not waiting for the interview invite.
Hello mommdc, my daughter was invited to apply for the Stamps scholarship as well when she was accepted back in November.
In early December she was invited to what was described as a “pre-screening” interview via Skype with the Admissions Office.
I thought she did OK in the interview, but it was her first interview of this nature. I would probably give her a B-minus.
She received an email a few days ago that she was no longer being considered for Stamps, but for her efforts she will get a one-time $500 book scholarship.
Her stats: 2/143, SAT: 2120, lots of ECs, varsity sports, great letters of rec, community service. This was enough to earn her 10K per year and a Chancellor’s invite.
Stamps was a dream scholarship, IMO. Only a handful of students get it. I think it was worthwhile for her for the interviewing experience.
@gschally, thank you for sharing your experience, I did not know about the skype interviews, that is interesting.
Yes, I think only 5 students will ultimately receive the Stamps scholarship.
We took my son for his Stamps Campus interview last week and I want to share the experience for future reference. Everyone, (Pitt admissions, current Stamps Scholars, fellow candidates) were friendly and encouraging. The group was split in 2 but all candidates had lunch together at 12 noon. My son’s group then participated in a leadership activity and had a one-on-one 8 minute interview. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is 150% sure Pitt is where he is meant to be… Finger crossed!!!
The finalists for Pitt Stamps Leadership Scholarship is out today. 5 of 7 chance in the last stage interviewing with Stamps Foundation. GL for all
