Pittsburgh Bradford vs Penn state Altoona

I got into both for nursing. I'm from California so I was hoping to find a more a school that's urban but I think both schools are pretty isolated or are in the middle of nowhere. Any suggestion where I should go? Should I go to Bradford and hope to be able to transfer to main later? For Penn state, you have to stay in the same campus for 4 years for nursing so I can't transfer anywhere.

I’m grew up in Altoona. I don’t think you want to stay there four years if you don’t have to. Just my opinion.

Actually, I think you should try to get your acceptance moved into Pitt-Johnstown, which has a [BSN nursing program](http://www.upj.pitt.edu/24806/) that is run by Pitt-main School of Nursing and a brand new facility that just opened this year. The nursing program there is pretty superior to what would be offered in Altoona or Bradford. Johnstown is also less isolated than Bradford. The towns of Johnstown and Altoona are about equivalently urban, that is, they’re both small cities and neither is anything like living in a major city, but Bradford is pretty remotely located and doesn’t have the BSN as far as I know. Johnstown is a wooded campus in the Johnstown suburbs though, so it won’t feel urban at all.

Admissions statistics to both Johnstown and Bradford campuses are about equivalent. If you were placed at Bradford, I would call Pitt and ask them if you can move your acceptance to Johnstown. To me, it seems like that would be fairly easy for them to do, however, it may be more difficult for them to switch you into nursing at Johnstown if that particular program is full. You also should sound them out about the possibilities of being able to transfer from Bradford’s Associate program into Pitt-main’s School of Nursing…how likely that actually is, and that could impact your decision. You might want to actually contact the school of nursing about that if you don’t get satisfactory answers from Pitt’s general admissions office. But also, don’t be afraid to let Pitt admissions know you are deciding between Pitt and other schools.

Seriously, check into getting switched to Pitt-Johnstown.

thanks! I definitely will call today to see if that’s possible.
do you know whether transfer is easy to do for nursing in for pittsburgh?

Wgmcp’s advice is on the money, IMO. The fact of the matter is that if it’s not possible to transfer out of Altoona but it is possible to transfer out of of Bradford, you go where the possibilities are. Call the program office at Bradford and outright ask how many students make that transfer each year. That will give you a clear picture on how easy or difficult this is.

thanks for the advice! I did manage to transfer tto Johnstown aso I don’t have to go to Bradford. I’m just a little confused how (if I were to) transferring into the main campus works. I applied for nursing major and if I do transfer to the main school after a year or two would I get into Pitt’s school of nursing?
