you realize that ms. kramer is just a regional admin officer.

she is just the one that first looks at your app.

she doesn't make the final decisions, a special group of senior officers does.

don't get your hopes too high remember rice only accepts barely half of applicants with 2300's plus there are lots of spots used up by varsity sports players.

how can they tip you and say that your "in" at such an early stage? Doesn't that break some sort of contract that censors their ability to tell students beforehand? I highly doubt they told you that your in. Your just being mislead by her tone of voice...

Checking to make sure they got your app is fine, but keep in mind that ALL schools keep some sort of 'record' of ALL correspondence (e-mails, phone calls, etc.). Don't make a pest of yourself. BTW - get ready for the 'storm' of filling out PROFILE and IDOC financial info. for Rice. Those requests come shortly after the first of the year - what a nightmare!! You wonder if it's worth it to go through all this even before being accepted. But it definitely IS worth it - Rice is very good about using their endowment to help students afford the school. Their request for financial disclosure leave no stones unturned or assets invisible.

A month ago, Rice sent me a letter telling me about this information session that they were having. It said that you had to RSVP online. Excited about the event, I immediately when on-line to do that. Here's the catch. The date on the letter said Nov 2, online, they have it as Nov 22. So naturally I called and found out what date was the real date and of course, I called the lady who would host the information session. So then they got it fixed and I attended (it was the second) and I introduced myself. After that, she had her presentation and then there was a line for questions. I made sure to stay after to ask her some and when she saw me she said "Ah, "______"" and seemed delighted at my questions, at least I think anyway. SOOOO, of course she was very thankful for me correcting that error and probably a bit embarrassed, lol. So okay back to now, I call her today and when I introduced myself over the phone, the was excited, a little TOO excited you know and she also mentioned that she had not too long ago finished reading my application. SOOOO, I think that I am going to be at Rice next year!

I feel the same way. I mean of course I'll be upset a bit but I'll get over it and go somewhere else. I'm just trying to think positively and be optimistic.

Waiting for college news is not fun at all. Staying busy with high school classes, ec's,
spending time with friends and family, starting new books, learning something new (outside of school), listening to music, and pursuing art projects could help make the time go faster. Swimming, dance classes, running, karate, etc.

Wishing lots and lots of luck to our Rice ED Crowd!

Isn't it funny how you felt relieved after you submitted the application? I kinda felt relieved it was all over for a couple of days. Then, i realized that the wait had just begun. Now, checking my inbox and rice threads has consumed my life.

it's kind of like after my last high school football game at Holland Holl.

We won our last reg season game after an 8-0 reg seasonand we are celebrating and partying really hard and I ws on top of the world.

Then a day later I was shocked to learn that I was depressed that high school football was over.

I am going to call the undergraduate admissions officer on Monday or Tuesday.
If I get deferred because my one of my teachers forgot to send a rec or because my transcript somehow didn't successfully get to the admission's office, I will be really ****ed.

The good thing is that I've prepared myself for rejection. If I get into Rice, I'll be happy go to a great school with a residential scollege system, play rugby (no way Im good enough to make the Rice team and anyways I wouldn't want all my free time consumed by d1 football if I was never going to play in games), and since my aunt has a house in Houston hwere m y band will be able to rehearse, I will be able to form a metal band and that would be fun, and we could play concerts at Rice and Houston venues.

If I get rejected by Rice, I'll be ecstatic to play sprint football at Cornell, or play d3 football at some small school like Middlebury, Bowdoin, U Chicago, colorado College, or trinity university.

Oh yes... THE email. I remember. That was one of the happiest moments of my life. I totally did not expect to get accepted by Rice (probably rejected and at best, waitlisted). But then again, that same day I had two other decisions roll in (in April) as well: I remember getting into Northwestern (yay) but waitlisted by Duke (super ticked off), so my Rice acceptance was definitely a pleasant surprise!

It was like "I am pleased to inform you that your application was approved by the admissions committee" or something along those lines--it was the strangest opening line I had read, and I read it three times to make sure I was understanding it correctly. Usually they say Congratulations in the beginning, or blahblahblah I'm sorry we could not offer you a place, etc.
