You can take Math 31A/31B at a CC for credit, if that's what you're asking, but the letter grade you get there won't count towards your UCLA GPA.

when do they start counting UCLA GPA? do they start that when you've actually declared your major or something? so any classes you take before that, it only helps to determine if you will get into a specific major right?

The URSA Degree Progress Report starts counting your UCLA GPA as soon as you enroll in a course at UCLA, regardless of whether you've declared a major or not, or whether you've made the cut into a specific major. There's no way to escape unless you go to a CC to take an equivalent course.

a UCLA economics adviser told me that taking a course at CC will go towards my pre-major gpa, instead of my UCLA gpa. so what is the difference? if our UCLA gpa starts right when we take our first course in freshmen year, what are pre-major gpas and what are they for??

You can skip out of a lot more requirements with your APs if you are an engineer. And by all means, skip as many classes as you can with your APs. Retaking a class that you have already passed out of will not guarantee you an A. There are enough smart people here and grades are so dependant on midterms and finals that you never really know, especially if you are a first year who doesn't know their way around already.

I thought it was less with if you are an engineer. Take math for example. Even a 5 on AP Calc BC doesn't give credit for 31B.

I just looked it up and you are right. They changed the requirements since I got to school. Sorry kids, they really do want you to make you stay in school longer and make you pay them more money. I was able to skip Math 31B just three years ago after getting a 5 on the AP Calc BC test. However if you are an engineer they still do give you more credit on the humanities GEs, and you can pass out of a lot of your GEs without having to take the classes here.

is there a way that you can pick what classes to transfer?
I took Multivariable Calc jr. year and had a C. My major definitely don't require that math class.

what if you eat complete sh** on the placement exam. then what?

ok so much for the AP exam thing. Can anyone tell me what happens if we don't pass the english language placement test, do they rescind the admission offer??????????????
because i didn't score high enough on the SAT and got a 2 on my junior year AP English test, so i have to take the test to meet the writing requirement. I am really worried about that i am a new immigrant to US and while i learned english in India and am good at it i still make many gramatical errors and i especially suck at analysis, which is what we have to do for this test.

somebody answer please.
