Placement Tests?

I have recently been accepted at Virginia Tech and had a few questions regarding placement tests.

Are there even placement tests for incoming freshmen?

If yes, what are the placement tests?

I am currently enrolled in a college credit transfer through a community college in my area where you pay them money and if I get a C average, I get credit from them for the class (Calculus) and it transfers over to Tech. Does VT accept these credit transfers from these community colleges?

If VT does accept these credits for calculus, do I have to take a placement test (if there even is one) for math?

Thanks!

Pamplin apparently requires freshmen to take a calculus course that’s been specifically developed for business majors. It has some elements that are not covered by a lot of CC calculus courses, and if yours falls into that category, it won’t satisfy it. Don’t know if you run into the same issue with science/engineering or other majors.

You can find out about transfer credits generally here: [2012-2013 Transfer Guide](http://www.tranguide.registrar.vt.edu/)

and specifically for Virginia community college courses here: [Transferable Community College Credit Equivalents](http://www.tranguide.registrar.vt.edu/2012/vccs/index.html)

I’d suggest you contact your major department at VT and ask them directly. My sense is that placement tests, if applicable, are offered over the summer, but you will need to call them anyway to arrange for them.
