Are ALL incoming freshmen required to take english/math/foreign language placement tests? I just checked the website and it says that the college will contact you first if it is required but I haven't gotten anything yet..

i already registered for the test for TOMORROW and I don't want to go if it's not required.. I checked several web pages and they all say different things.
(One says that ALL freshmen are required to take foreign language and one says another.. omg..)

my sat verbal was over 600 so I don't have to take english test.
I'm currently in AP Cal AB and most likely gonna get 5 on the test so I'm not really seeing a point in taking math test either..
As of foreign language, I don't even know if Im required to take it since I heard that it's not a required class for freshmen.

Plz enlighten me on this subject.. :(

ps.

how do you get to Rutgers Douglass campus from New York Penn Station?

You are exempt from english with a 600+ on the SAT, math you still have to take (I am is the same boat with calculus 1 ab- only juniors who took AP Calc are exempt), and language I would take just to be safe. Even though it is not a requirement to graduate, you might as will give yourself the opportunity to continuue a language. The way I think about it, if you do badly on the placement test and choose to take the language you will just get placed in an easier language class.

In regards to getting to Douglass Campus from NY Penn Station? Well, I'm assuming you will be taking the train to the New Brunswick NJ Transit Station, right?

From there, I guess you can ask someone for directions to George Street. I'm taking the test tomorrow too, so the directions that I have state that you have to stay on George Street, go past the first traffic light, stay to the left and enter the circle. Then you have to make a right off of the circle to continue on George Street. Then you have to make another right and take some jughandle to cross George Street. Then bear left after crossing George Street, and Hickman Hall is the large building that is adjacent to the parking lot.

I don't think I really helped you much :) The directions seem kind of confusing when I read it. You are safe arriving early at the campus (around 7:45) just to make sure you find your way around. I would ask around when you get off the train. I'm sure someone will help you :)

The AP credits count as elective credits even if they are not major related. You can check your degree requirements by typing Rutgers (subject) major.

I ended up being late tho.. I checked this thread after I came back from the test (wouldve been better if i I could see it earlier..) and I just took the suttle bus .

The bus came so late that I was late for 45 mins...
(they still let you take it tho.. I guess all the things ive heard about rutgers shuttle bus was true after all.)

Other than that, everything was alright..
it was my first visit to Rutgers, and I enjoyed it a lot :D

Oh
I didn't take the foreign language test
I figured I'll NEVER take the subject in college since I really hate it
I hope this doesnt cause any problem in the future :(
Did anybody else NOT take the foreign language test and just left after the math portion?

I took the foreign language test (spanish). Don't feel bad. There were two parts to the test: The listening and the written part. After the listening part was finished, some kids attempted the written part, but decided to hand in their test and walk out. It started out with a few kids, then a bunch followed suit.

They simply wouldn't bother with the rest of the test. It was kinda funny seeing a crap load of kids going up to the front handing in their tests and leaving :)

I just finished the test bubbling random answers for the ones that I didn't know. I'm sure it won't cause any problems.

Ah, I see. So.. I can just BS the foreign language part or not take it at all?

What exactly is the point of foreign language placements again? Would scoring well on a Latin placement exam put me into higher level courses in another language (assuming that I don't want to continue Latin)?... because that doesn't make sense.

I believe if you performed well on the Latin placement, they would put you in a higher level course for that language only -- so Latin.

If you don't want to continue a language in college, I guess there is no point in taking the language portion of the test.

Just a tip: Take the placement test anyway -- for whatever language you want to continue in or for a language that you think you might pursue at Rutgers. Even if you don't want to continue latin, just answer questions that you don't know, and leave the others blank.

You won't be the only one. As I mentioned above, tons of kids walked out after the listening section when I took the test this past Saturday. They just said "Screw it", handed their test in and that was it.

test begins at 10:00 (but i believe its delayed for another good 20 mins...)
and there's lunch break at like 11... don't really rememebr tho
(it doesnt matter anyway becuz most kids finish before the lunch break starts.. its easy math)

and the lunch break ends at 12:15
and the precal portion begins.. (but the test wont start till 12:40.. all the kids coming in and distributing test and blah blah blah)

i think the precal portion takes place for 1 hr.. but i was done after 25 mins so .. by the time i finally got out it was like 1 :10.

BTW
dont freak out too much if you're late.
they have this seperate room for late people..
not that you should be there... lol
