Places to eat out with ds and his friends over Thanksgiving break?

Dh and I are visiting ds over Thanksgiving. We are actually flying out on Thanksgiving Day - this is QUITE the bargain!

Where we live, there is not a single place open on Thanksgiving night. Not even a pizza joint. Many places serve a Thanksgiving meal until about 3:00 in the afternoon, but then those places shut down. Are there restaurants open for dinner in Palo Alto on Thanksgiving night? I don’t care if we don’t get turkey - just want to know what options we might have.

Also, we would like to take out and treat some of his friends to dinner on Friday night. We want to offer them something nice but nothing too extravagant. Maybe something between pub grub and fine dining??? That will take a reservation?

Ds is pretty frugal and just does not eat off campus that much, so he really doesn’t know what to suggest.

TIA for any help!

Oh! And what would y’all think of The Counter for lunch on Friday? Dinner on Thursday and lunch of Friday would just be the three of us. Friday night could potentially be 8 - 10 people. We are going to the ND game on Saturday.

I don’t know if they take reservations, but one of our favorite places to eat with our son when we’re in town is The Fish Market on El Camino Real. We go there almost every time we’re in town and it’s a fun place to go–not cheap (because it’s fresh seafood) but not fine dining either.

We have family in Palo Alto and we enjoy going to The Counter for lunch. Teenagers love it because the burgers are substantial and you can customize them with a very large variety of toppings. The fries are so good that they are hard to stop eating. The service at this location is inconsistent, but that doesn’t keep us away. By the way, the turkey burgers here are better than you might expect - worth a try if you are not a big beef-eater.

We were down in San Luis Obispo for the last couple of years for Thanksgiving. We were able to Google and find a list of restaurants serving on T’giving. So try searching for the city you are interested and Thanksgiving dinner.

Chef Chu’s in Los Altos is nice.

People seem to have memorable experiences at Pampas, a “Brazilian Steakhouse”.

We love Nola. New Orleans style food.

Thanks for the replies! A local friend of ds’s actually invited us for Thanksgiving dinner at their home! So gracious!
But, we will check out some of these others during the rest of our visit! So excited to see ds AND attend the Stanford/ND game!
