Im in webb tower and from really far away so I'd like to stay in california over thanksgiving/winter break if possible. are there programs for students staying? i know alternative break but is there anything else thats more about fun and not community service?

For thanksgiving, President Nokias invites every student stuck on campus over to his house for Thanksgiving dinner. I’m not sure if other University presidents do such a thing but I thought that was amazing.

Wow, that’s so cool! My D will likely be there over Thanksgiving and I do worry a bit about what she’ll do. So it’s nice to know she’ll have some options. Is this the case even for Viterbi students?

I think all students have the option of going. Here is an article from the first time he did it back in 2010 and since he did it in 2011 also I can’t think of a reason why it would not happen this November:
[Nikias family hosts a USC Thanksgiving|Daily Trojan](Nikias family hosts a USC Thanksgiving - Daily Trojan)

This Thanksgiving Dinner at Nikas’s house is such a fantastic idea! Allowing students who can’t go home for Thanksgiving to still come over and enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with fellow members of the Trojan family is really nice, and I hope they do it again this year.

After reading that article, I must say food described strongly reminded me of a Harry Potter holiday feast ;)

Thanksgiving break should be fine but a number of dorms (on-campus freshmen ones specifically) close during winter break and everyone must leave them. Plan ahead for that.

Thanksgiving dinner at the president’s house is an annual thing now, but you will have to find something to do winter break because USC housing shuts down.

Webb doesn’t shut down.

I’ll also be stuck for Thanksgiving break. Pardee Tower probably does close over winter break, doesn’t it?D:

Most UG’s do leave for winter break, with the exception of some International students. There are no organized activities for UG’s during that break that I’m aware of. So you really should plan on going home, if at all possible. It will be very quiet on campus.

@KaiLun- yes, Pardee will be closed during winter break. Be sure to watch the dates that you have to be out-- they can be very close to your last final and you will need to plan ahead.
