Plan to go to UCF too much?

I'm a California student exploring college options... UCF was my first choice until I learned that I have no chance with my stats. I hear that Valencia College pretty much guarantees its graduates a transfer to UCF? I wanted to study Hospitality with a focus in Theme Parks and Attractions at Rosen College (UCF), and Valencia College also has hospitality. Would going to Florida for community college just to go to UCF be too much? Not sure what my chances of transferring to UCF from a California CC is compared to Valencia in Florida.

also, I'm not planning on doing this, I was exploring all of my options.

Unless you have money to burn, paying OOS rates for a CC seems odd.

If you do well at a Calif CC, surely UCF would accept a transfer. Of course, UCF will charge you high OOS tuition. Are your parents ok with paying for that?

You have Calif schools with hospitality…you don’t need to go so far away.

What are your stats?

I only have a 3.2 GPA. I took a practice SAT not too long ago and I was like around 1400. I’ll have to see how I do on the real one.

I’m just not sure how competitive UCF is for transfer students. I figured I would have a solid chance if I moved down to Florida. Also, Rosen College is one of the most prestigious schools for hospitality and the only one with theme parks and attractions concentration. The program is far better than any of the CSUs.

Moving to Florida will NOT give you residency. Your residency is based on where your PARENTS live …unless you’re married, a veteran, over 24, or have a bachelor’s degree.

How do you know that UCF’s program is “far better” than what any of the CSU’s have? What is that based on?

What is your career goal?

Perhaps you misunderstood me… I wasn’t moving down there to get “residency”, but referring to moving down there and attending Valencia College first. Anyway, Rosen is highly acclaimed for hospitality. I’m not going to argue over what is better, but I know many kids who look at a school that is highly acclaimed in their area of study; like I am doing. I’m not ruling CSU’s out, but exploring all of my possibilities. UCF is just a thought.

Valencia Community College’s OOS tuition is almost twice the price of a CSU. The COA for Valencia Community College would be about $30k per year. If you’re set on Rosen, then look into transfer possibilities from either a CSU or a Calif CC.

Unless money is no object in your household, paying $60k for two years at a CC seems nutty. The OOS cost for Rosen will be high enough…about $70k for two years.

I might consider a California CC to transfer. I’m not sure yet. I agree that the OOS for Valencia is way too much though.
