Planning to transfer to sbu

Hey Guys,
So, I'm stuck, and i hope you guys can help me.. I'm a first semester freshman at CUNY and so after this semester i will have 12 credits. I want to apply to stonybrook for the fall 2010 semester, but it says 24 credits required with atleast 3.0 gpa (by the time u apply) and since deadline is like in february i won't have 24 credits till end of spring 2010.. so should i still take the chance and apply for fall 2010 or should i wait to apply for spring 2011? I hope I'm making sense here, and from looking at my grades atm (they have not came out yet) it don't seem like I will be getting a 3.0 gpa :( .. So should i even bother? any type of response will help! thanks in advance :(

I want to goto stony badly :((

they mean that you need to have that many credits completed by the time you’d be matriculating. you can send them your midterm grades to show that you’re continuing to do good work. best of luck

I was in the exact same situation as you, and I applied for the Fall '09 semester. I wanted to get in as badly as you… I had convinced myself that it was THE school for me. I felt comfortable there and loved everything about it.
To make a long story short, I had the GPA down but not the 24 credits, and heavily believe I was rejected for that reason. If you don’t have 24+ credits, it is sort of a waste of $70 (to apply).

I applied again for this upcoming Spring and got in, with both the GPA and credits. It made me realize how much more I wanted it (which I thought was impossible), and it gave me the opportunity to take more classes at the CUNY school I’ve been at, that I’d be taking in SBU for more $.

If you need to talk, throw me a PM. I go on here every day.

Steven’s pretty accurate. 24 credits has become a pretty solid requirement. You could apply without it, but we’ll likely hold your application until you’ve completed the spring semester… and it’s possible (likely, actually) that we’ll already be full at that point.
