Nice people please rank Plazas at UCLA, and explain, thanks.

De Neve may be nicer than the other plazas, but it’s in its own isolated corner. True, it’s closer to campus, but it’s a pain to have to walk up to meet people. I say Delta Terrace, Canyon Point, and Courtside are the best because Sunset Village is in the middle of everything (Covel, Bcafe, Cafe 1919). I’ve never seen the high rise plazas other than Rieber Terrace.

^ What do you think of Reiber Terrace?

Rieber Terrace and Rieber Vista are both alright. Summit is good itself but it’s all the way up the hill. I personally think Deneve is the best since it’s closer to campus and it’s probably the most social of the plazas (since many freshman are put there). And it’s only a 2 minute walk from Covel, Bcafe, and Cafe 1919

In terms of “niceness”/cleanliness (In order of best to worst)

Summit/Terrace/Vista (newer plazas)
Sunset Village/De Neve (older plazas)

Personally, I don’t know if anyone notices this, but the older plazas have a stuffier feel to them, like there’s a heater problem or something. I think the reason why I notice this is because I’m used the cooler AC air of Summit. The lounges aren’t as nice and the older plazas just look old. (Plus more stains, dust, etc.) Also, with construction, De Neve might be a problem for some people.

In terms of location:

De Neve / Sunset Village
(it’s a matter of preference, since De Neve is closer to campus, but Sunset is closer to Covel, BCafe, Cafe 1919, and the other dorms. I think De Neve is pretty social though, despite being off on its own, if you’re into that. )
Vista/Terrace
Summit (terrible hike up - feels like it never ends on some days)

De Neve isn’t really that old. It finished construction in 2002. Comparing it to Sunset Village is silly. Some of those buildings over there are really old (30+ years) and constructed before even the Halls. De Neve is aged much closer to the high rises.

Also, all De Neve rooms have air conditioning and they’re really only stuffy in the hallways/lounges. The exceptions are Acacia and Birch which aren’t stuffy anywhere.

The high rises are admittedly better ventilated and they have bigger rooms. (However, I would argue De Neve rooms have the most professional interior design with their built in closets.) What I don’t like about the high rises are that you have to ride the elevators everywhere.

De Neve is kind of on its own island. You might miss out on Cafes. De Neve is a major commons, however, so you will still have the convenience odmf a dining hall and computer kabs around you.

is deneve alright socially?

compared to… lets say, reiber vista?

yea (10 char)

My S was in DeNeve his freshman year (2001), and had a room at the end of the hall that he found really isolating but survivable. He did like having an ensuite bathroom.

de neve is social…all the ppl who i know from de neve seem to know the ppl who live on their floor really well…delta terrace sucks…avoid canyon point too…
