Hi I will be a senior next year and will be applying to NYU. I am in 7 APs this year and next year I signed up for: AP Gov, AP physics C, AP stat, calc 3 dual enrollment, diffeq, dual enrollment, and 3 java programming classes that will enable me to get my Oracle certified Associate certification. I’m work heavily (30-35 hours a week), first generation american and a first generation college student, National Honor Society, German Honer Society, Mu alpha theta, and the events coordinator for my programming team/club at my school. I have a 3.7 UW GPA, I will have a total of 17 AP classes on my transcript, with mostly A’s and nothing lower than a B. Is there any thing I can do to boost my chances of an admission?
…What’s your SAT/ACT score? Also, holy mother of APs. You could have taken a little bit less if it would have given you a slightly better GPA. I think your GPA will hurt you a tad, but you can make up for it with the sheer rigor of your schedule (!), your standardized test scores, and your (nice) ECs.
The first gen thing is huge. That’s your hook. That will help immeasurably.
Check your NPC for NYU, though. That school is notoriously stingy with its need-based aid.
My GPA is brought down some by my high school credits earned in middle school, because I did’t know they were on a high school transcript so I never really gave it my all. The AP classes never hurt me, my honors English classes are what hurt me haha. My weighted is about a 4.25 and I take the SAT on wednesday.
